Humanitarian Aid
ADRA Norway (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) was established as a foundation in April 1993 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Norway. Their work builds on a long tradition of social welfare work done by the church members for more than 80 years. There has been a shift from handouts and charity to long term and sustainable development done in partnership with the local communities themselves. Even for emergency management, a longer term perspective is applied.

Over the last two decades it has helped millions of individuals receive a second chance at life. With a strong presence in over 180 countries worldwide, ADRA is working to break the cycle of poverty. In 1983, ADRA came to Tanzania. Since then they have implemented over 80 programs to assist the people of Tanzania. Advantage Africa supports the ideas and work of inspirational people in Africa to overcome poverty and disadvantage. Advantage Africa believes that lasting change in poor communities is best achieved from the inside. We identify and support the work of men and women in Africa who are selflessly commited to overcome hardship within their local communities but who lack the resources to fulfil their aspirations. Our encouragement and support enables these people to do extraordinary things by becoming catalysts for lasting change and hope in situations of great need. Our support is particularly focused on people who are 'doubly disadvantaged'. These are people who, in addition to poverty, are stigmatised and denied opportunities to improve their lives because they are disabled or affected by HIV/AIDS.

The Advocacy Initiative for Development (AID) is a charitable, social, non-profit making, non-governmental, non-political organization seeking to advocate for the rights of humanity and render services for the holistic development of people and their communities. Our main targets are Women, Children, Disabled Persons, People living with HIV and AIDS and minority groups as well because of the many contradicting issues surrounding the growth and development of the above mentioned groups especially in this part of the continent where women and children continue to face violence and abuse in their daily lives. In a world where competition is high and the battle for survival is tough, and the available resources are limited despite the many raw materials with which we are endowed, especially in Africa, AID seeks to advocate for equal access to opportunities regardless of gender, tribe or race. As we seek to promote human development holistically by tackling poverty through advocacy and service delivery at community, local and national levels, the organization does have several programs through which it has designed methods/approach to reach its target beneficiaries at all levels.

AFC is the only citywide agency offering free individual case assistance to families and children who are experiencing problems in obtaining appropriate educational services for their children. This includes special education problems, school disciplinary issues, and general access to school services. Direct advocacy not only effectively assists individuals, but these cases often reveal trends in denial of services, which AFC then addresses through negotiation with schools, school districts, the City's Board of Education and the State's Education Department. Skilled bilingual education experts, paralegals, and attorneys help parents use resources and strategies to overcome barriers. When further intervention is required, staff members attend meetings with parents, impartial hearings at the Board of Education and handle administrative and court appeals.

Afghan Poverty Relief was born out of a strong and burning desire to free the poor and needy of Afghanistan from the devastating effects of war and poverty. We believe that we need to provide the tools for economic independence so that the dependency on aid is reduced. We have undertaken our relief and development programmes in various rural locations working with communities and their representatives to ensure the funds make a difference to the lives of the poor men, women and children. Adopting a focused approached in a number of critical areas, we hope to create a sustainable and long term impact upon the lives of the most vulnerable.
