ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) partners with those in need to support, restore, and improve their quality of life regardless of ethnic, political, or religious association. With a focus on helping people to help themselves, ADRA has implemented programs in health, education, food security and emergency aid. Established by the Seventh-day Adventist Church soon after the end of the Second World War, the organization was originally called SAWS (Seventh-day Adventist Welfare Service). Its goal was to aid those affected by serious disasters, and that remains as one of the main objectives to this day. Over the last two decades it has helped millions of individuals receive a second chance at life. With a strong presence in over 180 countries worldwide, ADRA is working to break the cycle of poverty. In 1983, ADRA came to Tanzania. Since then they have implemented over 80 programs to assist the people of Tanzania. Projects range from focuses on water and sanitation, HIV prevention and orphan and vulnerable children support. Currently active in over four regions, ADRA Tanzania makes every effort to involve the community in the creation, management and implementation of its projects.
