Through the teaching, creation and performance of contemporary dance creations, 10 Gates provides entry points for the education of the public to contemporary and theatrical dance. Since its inception, the company has created an exceptional body of work for some of the most renowned dance artists and companies in Canada and has held a unique role in the field of dance through its mentorship activities with choreographers in Canada and abroad. One wing of 10 Gates Dancing Inc. is consistently devoted to the Nurturing and Mentorship of young choreographers and dancers. This is realized through the involvement with the Le Groupe Dance Lab, teaching technique classes throughout Canada and during international Lab experiences and through choreographic works with students in professional schools such as LADMMI, the School of the Toronto Dance Theatre and the Professional Program of Contemporary Dancers in Winnipeg. Giving young pre-professional dancers the experience of a creative process, through rehearsals and the performance of a work is the most direct form of passing on knowledge about the art form to the new generation.

1000 Friends of Oregon
Based in USA
United States
Environment

1000 Friends of Oregon was founded in 1975 by Governor Tom McCall and Henry Richmond as the citizens' voice for sound land use planning. Their goal was to protect Oregon’s quality of life from the effects of uncontrolled growth, using the tools of Senate Bill 100, passed in 1973. In the early days, 1000 Friends served as the "big stick" of enforcement, suing towns and counties to complete a Comprehensive Plan, as required by Senate Bill 100. Later, we assumed the “watchdog” role, helping citizens make sure their elected officials followed the rules, threatening to sue when they didn’t. Today, 1000 Friends staff focus on education and advocacy, to engage Oregonians in a fresh conversation about Oregon’s future, and how to make sure it’s a future we all want. We seek to enhance the quality of life we enjoy in Oregon, with beautiful natural areas, the family-owned farms and woodlots that comprise our working landscapes, and vibrant, livable communities for urban and rural residents alike.

60 million girls is a public foundation established in February 2006 by Wanda Bedard and a group of talented, creative and energetic women who strongly believe in the need to support education for girls in order to create a more just and balanced world. Our objective is to support at least two major education projects annually in developing countries with the greatest gender disparity in school enrolment by raising funds through our Foundation. The project can take many forms: from school construction to teacher training, providing supplies, fees or equipment, supporting activities which will increase girls' access to school (water projects, daycare, adolescent classes) as well as community support programs and others. The projects must not discriminate or restrict access based on religion, race, socio-economic factors or ability to pay. At least 50% of students enrolled must be female.
