Claremont McKenna College

Based in USA United States
Children/Education

As one of the nation's most selective private liberal arts colleges, CMC sits among the intellectually-stimulating, socially-fulfilling, seven-college community known as The Claremont Colleges, a system modeled after England's Oxford University. Founded in 1946, CMC is the youngest of the nation's top colleges and enrolls approximately 1,200 students. While many other colleges champion either a traditional liberal arts education with emphasis on intellectual breadth, or training that stresses acquisition of technical skills, Claremont McKenna College offers a clear alternative. Instead of dividing the liberal arts and the working world into separate realms, education at Claremont McKenna is rooted in the interplay between the world of ideas and the world of events.

Clarke School for Hearing and Speech

Based in USA United States
Disability

Clarke is an auditory/oral program, which means that we teach children to listen and speak, rather than use sign language. At Clarke, children use cochlear implants and hearing aids to maximize their access to sound, and our specially trained teachers, audiologists and speech language pathologists help them develop listening, literacy and spoken language skills to maximize their learning. Our goal is to prepare children to succeed in mainstream classrooms alongside their hearing peers. Because of increased newborn hearing screenings and early intervention services, many children who come to Clarke are ready to mainstream as early as kindergarten. There are many different schools of thought about educating children who are deaf and hard of hearing. At Clarke, we recognize that there is no single approach that is right for every child. We provide parents with the tools they need to understand their child’s hearing loss, make informed choices about educational options and find the path that is right for their family.

The Foodbank solicits food from food industry donors, including growers, manufacturers and retailers. Much of this food is surplus or unmarketable. Instead of throwing it away, it is used to feed the hungry. The food is sorted and repackaged by approximately 10,000 Foodbank volunteers per year. Some of the food is used to create meals in the Foodbank's Cleveland Community Kitchen. Volunteers and staff from more than 600 Northeast Ohio hunger programs order the food they need from a daily menu of more than 140 items. The orders are picked up by the agencies or delivered to them directly by the Foodbank fleet. Our member agencies (such as hot meal sites and pantries) provide nutritious food to struggling men, women and children in our community. Last year, the Foodbank distributed 32.9 million pounds of food and non-food items to our member programs.

Based in NLD Netherlands
Environment

The Climate Centre aims to support the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in meeting the commitments made at the International Conference, by strengthening the ability of all components of the Movement to understand and address the rising risks related to climate change, climate variability and extreme weather events. Clowns Without Borders USA

Based in USA United States
Children/Education

CWB recognizes that our work is made up of small moments. Although small and purely emotional, these moments build upon each other staying with children as they grow and supporting their incredible resilience. CWB works with relief organizations addressing psycho-social needs of those who suffer from traumatic situations. We are not doctors, psychologists or social-workers, but together with these professionals and community participation we create joyful experiences from which children and their communities thrive. We bring levity, contemporary clown/circus oriented performances and workshops into communities so that they can celebrate together and forget for a moment the tensions that darken their daily lives. We are funded almost entirely by individual donations. Participating artists all volunteer their time. They do the majority of the fundraising for project expenses. You can be a meaningful part of our work by supporting us financially.

Cluster Munition Coalition

Based in USA United States
Human Rights

Since 2006, the CMC has been the leading voice pushing for changes in government policies and practices regarding the humanitarian suffering caused by cluster munitions. We seek to prevent the use, production, and trade of these weapons and ensure that stockpiles are destroyed. Through our national campaigns in over 100 countries, we have managed to gain adherence to the Convention on Cluster Munitions by more than half the world’s states. Nonetheless, there is still a long way to go. These internationally-banned weapons indiscriminately kill and injure people every day. Currently there are countries and territories affected by cluster munitions in every region of the world. The CMC believes that through the universal adherence to and implementation of the 2008 Convention on Cluster munitions, we can end the devastation these weapons continue to wreak upon communities worldwide. Donate today and make sure the suffering caused by these weapons ends in years not decades.
