The association was set up on foot of government policy promoting the development of housing associations in Ireland. During the late 1980s and early 1990s there was a strong desire to promote new systems of housing management and to encourage a greater diversity of suppliers of social rented housing. Clúid is a dedicated housing organisation which, through the provision of housing, aims to facilitate the creation of homes and communities where people want to live and settle.
