Colonial Williamsburg Foundation
Arts/Culture
In 1926, the Reverend Dr. W.A.R. Goodwin, rector of Bruton Parish Church, shared his dream of preserving the city's historic buildings with philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr., and the restoration began. In the preservation of the setting of Virginia's 18th-century capital, Mr. Rockefeller and Dr. Goodwin saw an opportunity to ensure that the courageous ideals of the patriots who helped create the American democratic system live on for future generations. Today, The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation operates the world's largest living history museum in Williamsburg, Virginia–the restored 18th-century capital of Britain's largest, wealthiest, and most populous outpost of empire in the New World. In Colonial Williamsburg's 301-acre Historic Area stand hundreds of restored, reconstructed, and historically furnished buildings. Costumed interpreters tell the stories of the men and women of the 18th-century city–black, white, and native American, slave, indentured, and free–and the challenges they faced.

Through the simple process of preparing and sharing a nutritious meal, children who participate in our programs learn to connect with their bodies, their neighbors, and their world in bite-sized lessons. Common Threads began out of our love of family and good food, two basic ingredients that link all people of this world together.
Communities for a Better Environment
Environment
Communities for a Better Environment (CBE) is a social justice organization with a focus on environmental health and justice. We organize in working class communities of color because those communities suffer the most from environmental pollution and toxics. CBE works in urban communities in Northern and Southern California among low-income African Americans, Latinos and other nationalities who are bombarded by pollution. As a result, the people, who have no choice but to live in these areas, suffer from very high rates of asthma and respiratory illnesses, heart problems, cancer, low birthrate, and miscarriages. These problems are made worse by higher than average rates of poverty, inadequate housing, poor schools, and inadequate health care and social services. We provide community residents who want to challenge corporate polluters with organizing help, scientific and policy research, and legal assistance. The focus of our work is to help community members identify their own problems, and define their own campaigns and solutions.

We help donors connect their individual charitable goals with real community needs while taking advantage of optimal tax benefits.
