More information
Communities In Schools Houston (CIS) is a non-profit organization established in 1979 to provide student support services to at-risk youth. With programs in 114 schools in the Houston, Spring Branch, Alief, Aldine, and Fort Bend school districts, CIS is able to touch the lives of over 37,000 students and their families annually. CIS' MOVE Project helps improve the health, well-being, and access to oral care of our students. During 2008-2009, Project MOVE provided free basic dental services, referrals for major restorative work, and coordination of oral health educational activities to more than 1,800 children. CIS offers this program every year, providing CIS high school juniors and seniors with summer internships and employment at some of Houston's finest law firms, accounting firms, hospitals, banks, universities, museums, and retail establishments. Our emergency fund is used to meet real needs of students and families living in poverty; these needs range from food and clothing, to school supplies and utility assistance, to vision exams and corrective lenses.
