Autistica

Based in GBR United Kingdom
Health/Medical

Autistica was founded by autism campaigner and philanthropist, Dame Stephanie Shirley in 2004 to act as a catalyst in increasing funds available for biomedical autism research in the UK. The exact causes of autism are only now beginning to be understood, but we are confident that accelerating autism research will transform our understanding of autism and lead to more effective interventions and treatments. Autism research struggles to attract the sympathy and the money of the wider world because autism does not kill; it merely disables. That disability can be extreme and it is life-long. While fifteen years ago there was only a small number of scientists working on autism research across the world, now there are several hundred. There is still much work to be done, as despite strikingly high prevalence, autism research remains one of the lowest funded areas of medical research by both public and private sources.

AWD Conservancy

Based in USA United States
Animals/Wildlife

Having lived and worked in the African bush for many years, we believe that investing in people and taking an adaptive grassroots approach are necessary to make wild dog conservation efforts sustainable, and indeed truly important to enable those most directly affected. The African Wild Dog Conservancy's community conservation project is in the Biodiversity Hotspots of northeastern and coastal Kenya, a rich mosaic of protected areas and community lands under extreme threat. Our approach differs from a number of other projects, because we have taken the time to learn why many community-based conservation efforts have not succeeded.

Awely - Des Animaux Et Des Hommes

Since its inception, we have aimed to put our enthusiasm and our competence in the service of the conservation of endangered species and the ecosystems. Our organization is based in the Center East of France, and we develop our actions in Africa, Asia and later on in South America. As the human population is constantly growing and wildlife habitats are destroyed, conflicts between people and animals are becoming a severe threat to both sides. Together with our partner organisations, we are developing solutions to benefit human and wildlife sharing the same environment and reducing the massive threat to biodiversity. We employ people from the local communities, we provide them with education and equipment, and they in turn are most often assisted by a local organisation who shares our orientation and with whom we have signed a partnership contract.

Österreichischer Kinderschutzbund

Based in AUT Austria
Human Rights

We consider the Austrian - style which means prohibition of all corporal punishment of children a vital strategy for reducing all forms of violence and abuse. "Moderate every-day violence" even if socially accepted is no trivial issue and never has been, because it may well serve as the breeding ground for any form of violent behaviour including sexual exploitation, pornography and child abuse. Physical punishment therefore cannot be scientifically divided into acceptable and not acceptable forms. It simply is wrong - and indeed it is not only wrong but useless and dangerous.
