The Whitgift Foundation
Community/Family
The Whitgift Foundation is a local charity based in Croydon and founded in 1596 to provide education for the young and care for the elderly. Our mission in the twenty-first century remains committed to both these central aims; to broaden access to the three Foundation schools for talented young people, particularly through the provision of significant financial assistance, and to promote the range of welfare options and provide high quality care homes and sheltered accommodation to the elderly in the town of Croydon and the surrounding area. The Whitgift Foundation has also established The Carers' Information Service as a provider of information, advice, support and training to carers of those who need help due to frailty, illness or disability.
The Wild Aid Foundation
Animals/Wildlife
The Wildaid Foundation Trust (Wildaid) is a charity registered in England and Wales (registered charity No. 1001595). It was set up in 1990 with the name Staffordshire Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre by Jonathon Hodges and his family to rescue, care for and rehabilitate animals in need. Originally the organisation ran a wildlife hospital and sanctuary for rescued zoo animals based in the Churnet Valley, near Stoke-on-Trent. In 1997 the charity’s name was changed to Wildaid and and we started supporting the work of other groups through a grant-making programme called Wildaid Challenge.

The Wildlife Ark Trust
Animals/Wildlife
The Wildlife Ark Trust is a registered charity. The Wildlife Ark Trust is in favour of any conservation measure that will help the red squirrel and the water vole such as habitat management, supplementary feeding, scientific research etc. but we believe that the control of alien pest species' numbers must be a priority. We also support the view that the immediate development of a vaccine to combat the effects of the squirrelpox virus in the red squirrels is vital.

The Yellow-Eyed Penguin Trust
Animals/Wildlife
In the 1980s research on the Otago Peninsula showed that the yellow-eyed penguin population had declined severely due to severe predation and loss of habitat and the yellow-eyed penguin was now considered to be an endangered species. This unique penguin is found only along New Zealands south islands’ eastern coastline, as far north as Banks Peninsula and as far south as Stewart Island and beyond to Campbell Island. So it was in 1987 that Dunedin conservationists formed the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust with the aim of saving the penguin by restoring coastal forest and controlling predators. The Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust is a conservation organisation highly respected by the Department of Conservation and the Ministry of Conservation for its work in the preservation of the rare and endangered yellow-eyed penguin.

He was at the height of his political career, working tirelessly for the advancement of the Jewish people and the State of Israel. Yuri was the founder of the Soviet Jewry Information Center and the Christian Allies Caucus in the Knesset. He was an idealist with a keen interest in literature and a brilliant parliamentarian who stood out as an exceptional figure on the local political scene. This memorial website is dedicated to Yuri Shtern’s fascinating life story, and presents a gallery of pictures, his poetry and eulogies, all of which honor and remember his life. But this website does not only commemorate the past. It is also a focal point for future activism. It operates directly in 22 villages through 300 field workers with an approximate outreach of 250,000. We also have an outreach program into Swaziland and Mozambique with whom we share borders. The purpose of our organization is to teach and equip people to care for dying AIDS patients, counsel traumatized families, take care of orphans, engage youth in life changing programs to combat HIV infection and to empower the local community to become self-sufficient. Thembalethu’s philosophy is to offer a holistic solution to the existing pandemic by introducing appealing intervention programs which will result in a better life for those we serve.

Think Twice
Children/Education
We develop and implement life skills programmes for children. In collaboration with relevant stakeholders, we train, equip, and empower educators and caregivers with information, tools and resources to provide the children in their care with the skills, knowledge and awareness required for their safety and healthy relationships. ThinkTwice began as the prevention programme of the Pregnancy Help Centre (PHC) in Cape Town in 1996 to meet the growing demand for women and teenagers experiencing the crisis of an unplanned pregnancy. Women received counselling and assistance with their decisions through the intervention programme. On the other hand, the prevention programme called Youth with a Vision, visited high schools and implemented Undiluted and Personal Growth Groups (PGGs). The aim of these lifestyle education programmes was to prevent the spread of HIV, STIs and unplanned teenage pregnancies. In 2002, through its interactions with high school learners, the prevention team realised that lifestyle changes needed to start much earlier in children's lives. Teenagers already had set beliefs about themselves which were hard to change. In addition to this, they received requests from primary schools to run Undiluted and PGGs amongst their learners. At the end of 2009, as a result of a strategic meeting, ThinkTwice decided to focus on the pre-school sector of our education. However, high school as well as parents programmes are still being delivered on demand and/or where there are opportunities.
Thirdway
Human Rights
Thirdway is international volunteer-driven NGO advocating human rights through active, hands-on programs. With our focus in West Africa, particularly Ghana, we develop projects that promote self-sustainability in education, micro-credit, and human rights awareness among the local population. We apply highly interactive programs requiring the strong motivation and determination of locals to create a foundation to rid a population of past crippling dependence on foreign aid. Ultimately our goal is to increase independence from the bottom up while significantly decreasing the need for international aid organizations such as ours.
THOKOMALA
Children/Education
THOKOMALA meaning 'warmth' or 'care' in isiZulu is based on the simple yet effective model of community-based child care. THOKOMALA's approach is holistic in that we not only provide shelter and food but also the love and nurturing of a normal family environment. Placement of orphans in their community of origin ensures they do not lose touch with their roots and the support systems familiar to them. THOKOMALA sets up houses which become homes to six children (preferably sibling groups) and a loving foster mother. THOKOMALA removes the stigma attached to HIV and AIDS and provides children with the love and warmth they need to grow into emotionally sound adults.
