As such, it is governed by a management committee who guides the organisation strategically. The management committee is made up of 13 members, three of which must have a mental illness. We advocate on behalf of people with schizophrenia, their carers and relatives and mental health professionals, for better government policy in the areas of research, treatment, rehabilitation, housing and other relevant areas providing innovative programs and support.
Scholarship America
Children/Education
Scholarship America has been developed to mobilize America, through scholarships and educational support - making post secondary education possible for all students. In 1958, an Optometrist in Fall River, Mass., had a simple but profound idea–if everyone in his community gave just a dollar to an educational fund, it would be enough to help nearly every student in the community who wanted to attend college. Dr. Irving Fradkin called his plan "Dollars for Scholars," and it has expanded into what, today, is the nation's largest non-profit, private-sector scholarship and educational support organization.

SCIAF
Research/Dev
SCIAF is the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund, the official aid and international development charity of the Catholic Church in Scotland. SCIAF works in 16 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America giving communities the tools, training and support they need to free themselves from poverty for good. We focus on three main issues: helping people to grow food and make a living; rebuilding lives that have been shattered by war; reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS and caring for people who have been affected by the virus. In Scotland, we are working to tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice. Unfair trade, debt and climate change all cause and sustain poverty. When disaster strikes, we work with local partners and with Caritas Internationalis (the world's largest network of aid and development agencies) to get help to those who need it – fast. As well as providing short-term, emergency supplies of food, water, shelter and medical care, we give communities the long-term support they need to help them recover, rebuild and get back on their feet.

With its origins in South Africa in 1991, SCORE now has autonomous national offices in South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and the Netherlands, each supported by the SCORE International office in Cape Town. The Aim of Scouting is to encourage the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development of young people so that they take a constructive place in society as a member of their local, national and international community.
Scouting Nederland
Children/Education
Scouting is an active and challenging way for kids and young people to spend their time in nature. They have lots of fun, and learn to work together and to respect each other. This way, kids and young adults have the chance to develop naturally into independent people, who have enough space to explore and to learn. Scouting Nederland is the largest youth organisation in the Netherlands and has 112,000 members. The 87,000 youth members and the 25,000 volunteers are spread over more than 1,100 Scout groups. There are twenty Label campsites where you can camp ‘the Scout’s way’. We have a number of camping grounds and buildings that are for rent. Scouting the Netherlands also organises a large number of international events every year.
SCOUTS New Zealand
Children/Education
SCOUTS youth programmes are designed to educate youth and develop their emotional and community skills as they try new experiences. This teaches the individual that they can succeed if they try, while at the same time developing the person into a citizen of New Zealand. Our groups focus on a variety of outdoor activities. In addition to regular Scout Groups, some groups are Air Scouts and some are Sea Scouts offering either specialised aviation or water activities. Our learning programmes complement learning at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, and in the workplace. We provide our young people with access to the highest quality training and leadership opportunities, equipping them with vocational experience and invaluable transferable skills.
Scratching Post
Animals/Wildlife
The Scratching Post is a cat rescue charity, based in Waltham Abbey & Cheshunt (Herts), but covering a much wider area. Our policy is to ensure that no cat is ever kept in unsuitable accommodation while it is waiting for a home. Every cat's individual needs are catered for and the best expert help is provided. We never put a cat to sleep unless there is no hope of being able to save him or her with a good quality of life, as advised by our vets. The scratching post also deals with feral cats. These cats are trapped, neutered and returned to where they come from, or found a new site. Whilst they are with us, they are kept in open plan stables, where they have space to run, hide and play.
