ILAN - The Israeli Foundation for Handicapped Children - was established in 1952 and assists thousands of physically impaired children and adults suffering from neuromuscular disorders such as infantile paralysis, cerebral palsy, and muscular dystrophy. ILAN provides services to thousands of handicapped individuals throughout the country from its forty branches and thirty facilities. Assistance is offered to anyone with physical disabilities no matter what their affiliation, including individuals from kibbutzim, moshavim, and the Arab and ultra-Orthodox sectors.

Yet many people do not access the necessary psychotherapy they require for a variety of reasons such as financial, social stigma, fear of meeting with cultural ignorance, racism or insensitivity. icap offers approximately 326 people psychotherapy on a weekly basis. The issues explored in therapy are as complex as the individual. icap's therapists are highly qualified, accredited, avail of weekly supervision and ongoing training. Many of the clinicians specialise in trauma and abuse, whether it is physical sexual or emotional, or all three. Clients take as long as is necessary to process the painful issues that have often crippled their lives. icap is primarily committed to providing a service that caters specifically for those from immigrant communities particularly the Irish community.

Impumelelo Social Innovations Centre

The Impumelelo Social Innovations Centre, formerly the Impumelelo Innovations Award Trust, is a non-profit organisation, established in 1999. Since inception, Impumelelo has successfully completed nine awards cycles in which 1569 projects were submitted and vetted. Of these, 811 were evaluated, 293 received awards for excellence and approximately 120 were awarded certificates for being praiseworthy. These include initiatives from across the country that provide solutions to problems related to the provision of water, sanitation, food security, renewable energy, waste management, public works, housing, skills development, HIV/AIDS, the environment, justice and security, rural development, arts and culture, and education.

In Touch was established in 1999 to meet a growing need to support families with a special needs child. Our primary raison d’etre is to provide support for parents/carers and siblings of children with moderate to severe disabilities through the provision of education, training and recreational facilities. In Touch enables families to make new friendships; discuss their fears and anxieties and feel less isolated; share information and attend regular breaks which gives them the emotional and physical strength to continue their daily challenges with renewed strength. We are based in London with a branch in Manchester and presently we are supporting over 300 families. The happy faces of the In Touch families prove that we are heading in the right direction. Our aims are to: Provide support and respite for parents/carers of special needs children; Develop a supportive network between families in similar situations; Reduce stigma surrounding a special needs child; Support children who are siblings of special needs.

Independent Development Trust

Established in 1990, the Independent Development Trust supplies grants for poverty relief, infrastructure development, and services in the education, housing and welfare sectors. The Board of Trustees of the IDT, comprised of prominent South Africans, was originally funded by a R2 billion (£400 million) grant from the government. The IDT is, therefore, accountable to the South African government, although it is not required to adhere to the policies of the state and is also not associated with private businesses. It is, therefore, classified as a Quasi Non-Governmental Organization (QUANGO) by the World Bank. Since the 1994 transition to a democracy in South Africa, the agency has begun to work closely with the government and the government-owned National Development Agency.
