In the early days we worked mostly with ex-offenders - we still do and are proud of our commitment to the most vulnerable adults in our community. Times have changed though and over the years the majority of our work is with children and families. F.R.O.D.O.

Based in GBR United Kingdom
Children/Education

Our broader objective is to improve the quality of life for children in desperate need: the abandoned and orphaned (principally, though not exclusively, those who are disabled), the abused, those with life-threatening illness and children who are at risk due to extreme poverty. It is unique in its work of identifying orphans and abandoned children with disabilities or life-limiting conditions, then striving to provide medical treatment in the hope that this will transform their quality of life, and increase the number of opportunities for them to fulfil their potential. F.R.O.D.O. believes that all children have a right to a family. In this regard, we feel the priority should be to reintegrate children with their immediate family or relatives, then fostered or adopted. In all circumstances, the child’s well being must be paramount before making any change.

Facing Africa - Noma

Based in GBR United Kingdom
Health/Medical

In 1998, Chris Lawrence heard about the terrible plight of the hundreds of thousands of children suffering the dreadful and shocking destructive and devastating effects of "Noma". He wanted to do something, anything to help, and contacted Allan Thom, a Consultant Orthodontist whom he had known for several years to ask if he had ever come across the ailment. Together, Chris and Allan researched, spoke to dozens of people, scoured the internet and finally conceived and registered the charity "Facing Africa - NOMA". Since 2000, Facing Africa has been working closely with it's European partners AWD Stiftung Kinderhilfe (Germany) and The Dutch Noma Foundation. So far (Jan 2009) we have raised over £600,000 (about US $870,000) which has been spent on sending the teams each year from Europe to Nigeria (air fares, hotel accommodation, ground transportation medical equipment and supplies), equipment for the hospital in Sokoto, training schemes, physiotherapists from Europe working in Nigeria and Ethiopia and many other essential expenses.

Fair Aid Society

Based in CAN Canada
Research/Dev

The idea of Fair Aid Society’s partnership with AMAVM (Association pour les Malades Vulnérables et Marginalisés) came about in Lubumbashi, DRC in December 2006. Joanne Leung and Jeff Spiers realized the need for medical equipment, supplies and funded projects while they were volunteering with AMAVM. AMAVM was operating on a volunteer basis and lacked the resources to accomplish their goals. On December 28, 2006 Joanne and Jeff, along with three members of AMAVM (Franck Otete, Rémy Anguandia and Lievin Lukusa) drafted the outline of Fair Aid’s objectives with the understanding that Joanne and Jeff would return to Canada and develop Fair Aid into a charitable society that would partner with AMAVM to support them in the achievement of their goals. Our vision for every person living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is that they receive the health care, emotional and social support that they need in order to heal and reintegrate as contributing members of society.
