To develop excellence in Sierra Leone schools, to empower Sierra Leonean teachers, to help progress the educational aspirations of pupils and their parents in those schools, to ensure sustainability in the work and achievements of Extra Mile volunteers, to help build capacity and self-sufficiency within the whole Goderich Community.

Extra mile is recruiting successful, retired and serving teachers, other professionals and gap-year student volunteers to work in schools in Sierra Leone. The basic, fundamental building block of any society is the provision of a reliable education system which allows pupils to progress through primary school to secondary and where possible to tertiary education. Education is a crucial factor in reducing poverty and child-labour but in Sierra Leone it is particularly vital in the promotion of democracy, peace, tolerance, reconciliation and personal and social development. Extra Mile’s main academic aims are to establish, develop, promote, but fundamentally raise basic levels of literacy, numeracy and life skills.
