Based in IRL Ireland
Children/Education

The Children's Rights Alliance is a coalition of over 90 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working to secure the rights and needs of children in Ireland, by campaigning for the full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). We engage in a broad range of activities in order to help deliver change for children living in Ireland. We deliver comprehensive policy proposals in key areas affecting children; we pride ourselves on our advocacy work, particularly in holding the Government to account over its existing and/or future commitments relating to the rights and needs of children living in Ireland; and we use our voice in innovative ways to raise awareness about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

Equally important in this respect are the groups of producers and artisans which Onda Solidaria helps to produce and distribute their goods through the international constructs of ‘Fair Trade’. We develop, execute and monitor projects which nurture self-assistance, always offering opportunities for those involved to construct their own independence.

Childright

Based in NLD Netherlands
Children/Education

It all started with an idea of a Dutch Nobel Prize winner, the econometrist Mr. Jan Tinbergen. His extensive travel exposed him to the suffering of children around the world. The conditions of employment violated every known labor and human rights law. The children he saw were forced to work for little or no compensation for days on end, which left them without the hope of an education or a future. He saw children who worked in dangerous conditions, exposed to everything from toxic chemicals to the HIV virus. This vicious cycle led to a life of poverty and dependence, leaving each of these individuals without the hope of a future. These concerns made Professor Tinbergen decide to found ChildRight in 1994, "because it is scandalous that the world allows so many of its children to live in such miserable conditions". He considered the disparity between wealth and poverty in this world to be unacceptable. ChildRight is actively supported by 138 Nobel Prize winners, such as Mikhail Gorbachev and the Dalai Lama. Nobel Prize winners are calling on you, and on all of us: stop the exploitation of children. They should have the right for a better existence; and a brighter future!

Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest

Based in USA United States
Animals/Wildlife

Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest (CSNW) is located on a 26-acre farm in the Cascade mountains, due east of Seattle. CSNW is one of only nine sanctuaries in the country that cares for chimpanzees. CSNW was founded in 2003 to provide sanctuary for chimpanzees discarded from the entertainment and biomedical testing industries. We envision a world where chimpanzee sanctuaries are no longer needed. Sanctuaries are only necessary in a world where chimpanzees are exploited and then discarded. We envision a world where chimpanzees are not bred by humans to be used for entertainment or kept as pets, and where medical advancement is productive and successful without including experimentation on chimpanzees. We envision a world where chimpanzees are raised by their mothers and live freely with their families in their natural habitat. We envision a world where our closest genetic relatives are respected and honored and allowed to thrive and behave as they were born to. We envision a world where chimpanzees are allowed to be, simply, chimpanzees. Our goals are to provide sustainable sanctuary, end the use of great apes in entertainment, and facilitate collaboration to continuously improve the care of captive chimpanzees.
