Children of Fiji

Based in GBR United Kingdom
Research/Dev

The charity 'Children of Fiji' is formed on humanitarian grounds and has no religious or political affiliation. Our fundamental belief is that all children have an equal right to opportunities, including love, healthcare and education. This right is not dependent on gender, ethnic origin, cultural background, ability, religious belief or financial status. Whilst doing all that we can to help children, we are quite aware of our need to educate some of the adult population.

Children of Promise International

Based in USA United States
Children/Education

The birthing of Children of Promise International came to Linn Haitz, Founder and Missionary, in a small rented room in the village of Bello, Colombia in 1968 when he was strongly impressed by Isaiah 49:6–"I will give you as a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth. "The work began in the jungles and slums of South America. The need seemingly was too great to tackle. There were thousands of Indians in remote areas beyond mountain ridges and roaring streams too difficult to reach.

Children of The Americas

Based in USA United States
Children/Education

Children of The Americas works to help poor children find health through nutrition and education by providing all the tools they need to compete, take their place in life, and help their children get the same opportunity. Our work began in Santa Teresita Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico, in 1974 when Paul Weiss founded an organization to help the girls of Santa Teresita. The work grew, and by 1984, the dream was expanded into Children of The Americas to reach children throughout our hemisphere, including children in the United States. End poverty in one generation? It would take a miracle to end it all. But we see miracles happening every day--one child at a time.

Children Of The Dawn

Based in ZAF South Africa
Children/Education

Children of the Dawn was set up – by concerned individuals - to support and strengthen existing or budding community initiatives which focus on caring for HIV/AIDS orphans. Based on a sponsorship programme, Children of the Dawn’s goal is to give back a future to these affected children. Children of the Dawn was officially registered as a Non-Profit Organisation by the South African Department of Social Development on the 19th of September 2002. Despite or due to the limited capacity of the South African government, rural communities have mobilised themselves and their community to find innovative solutions to the problems created by the pandemic, and particularly to help AIDS orphans. However, these pro-active and motivated informal teams often lack financial and technical capacities to achieve their potential. Children of the Dawn has been created to change this situation. We take a community approach to orphan and vulnerable children care, by empowering communities in their mobilisation around affected children.

Children's Burns Trust

Based in GBR United Kingdom
Health/Medical

A burn injury is for life. Being burned or scalded as a child means years of painful treatment and in the worst cases hundreds of operations to release the scar tissue as they grow. The National Burn Care Standards say that the burns service should have a network of support groups where patients and their families can mix with others with similar concerns and that a children’s support group should be available where they can interact with other children with burn injuries and receive peer support. The NHS provides good emergency care for burn and scald accidents but the post trauma or follow up care including equipment is significantly under-funded. Our charity is the only national charity dedicated to help NHS staff to restore the child to their pre-injury condition and potential in terms of aesthetic, function and intellect and the provision of equipment is as an important element in their on-going recovery.

Children's Cancer Institute Australia

Children's Cancer Institute Australia for Medical Research (CCIA) is the only independent medical research institute in Australia dedicated to research into the causes, prevention, better treatments and ultimately a cure for childhood cancer. Our vision is to save the lives of all children with cancer and eliminate their suffering. Since the construction of our first laboratory, CCIA’s research effort has grown to encompass ten major research programs. These research programs focus on translational research that represents a broad and well-integrated approach directed at improving the outcome of all children with cancer. First established as a Foundation that funded the few, small research projects then being undertaken, CCIA opened its own research laboratories in 1984. Since that time, the Institute has grown to employ over 150 staff and students, and has established a national and international reputation for scientific excellence. Prior to the 1960s, childhood cancer was almost always fatal. Today, as a result of enormous advances in medical research, the survival rate has risen to 70 percent. However, three out of every ten children with cancer do not survive. These are the children that CCIA strives to save.
