Nowdays, to further our scientific knowledge of the marine environment, the Foundation serves as a research platform through its flagship Fleur de Passion. Ape Action Africa

Based in GBR United Kingdom
Animals/Wildlife

We rescue orphaned gorillas, chimpanzees and monkeys in Cameroon and give them sanctuary in a safe forest environment. Most of the animals are orphans of the illegal bushmeat trade. Many arrive with horrific physical injuries and they suffer psychologically after seeing their families killed. They are also often cruelly treated by poachers who think they can sell them to the primate pet trade. Education is vital to our conservation work - the future of the great apes is in the hands of the children of today. People are important to us too and we work hard with the local communities to develop alternative livelihoods. We are a registered NGO in Cameroon, a UK registered charity and a US 501(3)(c) not for profit organisation. We are passionate about great ape conservation at Ape Action Africa, which is home to more than 330 primates, including endangered species - 20 gorillas and over 100 chimpanzees.

They are the true heroes behind APOPO's mission, working together with their human colleagues to create a safer world and inspire social change. Once fully trained, a HeroRAT can pinpoint the location of landmines quickly and effectively, or sniff out deadly tuberculosis (TB) faster than traditional laboratory microscopy. We are UK’s leading organisation for performance poetry. We’ve been around for 25 years and in that time we’ve worked with hundreds of artists and reached over a million audience members in schools, theatres, libraries, prisons and pubs across the country. We believe that poetry is an immediate and inspiring form of communication that comes alive through performance and we aim to introduce it to as many different people as possible. Our work is particularly focused on finding emerging artists and giving them support to develop their work and communicate their message. There are so many talented artists with so much to offer and our aim is to raise the profile of each individual as much as our organisation as a whole. As well as educational work, we regularly put on shows.

APSA - Americans Promoting Study Abroad

Based in USA United States
Children/Education

Americans Promoting Study Abroad (APSA) was founded by American business people who have had extensive experience living overseas;as a result they understand first‐hand the value of study abroad and the need for more Americans with international experience. APSA’s development reflects the experience of its founders building businesses and international careers. Business experience has driven a step‐by‐step approach to development in which APSA spent its first years gradually refining the program to improve the student experience. The founders’ international careers informed a career‐focused approach to programming in which students visit companies, NGO’s, the US embassy, and other places of work, and meet with young Americans working in China. This allows the students to see where the study of the language can take them in the future. This unique emphasis on career development has proven to be one of the most successful elements of the program. Central to APSA’s mission and objectives is the idea that we will not only impact individual students through our study abroad programs, but that we can motivate communities and other stakeholders to expand study abroad opportunities and other forms of global education to more diverse student groups. As is captured in our name, we not only provide study abroad opportunities, but promote study abroad in underserved communities.
