Trust for Africa's Orphans - TAO
Research/Dev
TAO has since 1995 focussed on the delivery of aid projects funded by European and Australian donor organisations. We work only on projects which allow orphans, and the families who care for them, to remain in their local enviroment. We understand the basic African spirit of community and family land ownership and do not seek to displace children or villages. As part of our programme of expansion we aim to recruit a team of 'TAO Volunteers' who we hope will be willing to dedicate their time, skills and commitment on an ad-hoc basis to assist us with fund-raising and administrative projects.
Trust for Public Land
Environment
The Trust for Public Land is a national nonprofit organization working to protect land as parks and open space. TPL is not a government agency, although we sometimes work with agencies to protect land. TPL helps communities and government agencies identify land for protection. We help identify funds that might be used to protect that land, and we sometimes help raise those funds through charitable campaigns and legislative or voter initiatives. Finally, TPL's real estate and legal staff help complete the transaction itself-often optioning or purchasing a property temporarily until it can be permanently protected by a government or community land trust.

The fight against tuberculosis continues relentlessly and the last word has not been said so far. It is expected that the efforts of the Centre would continue to throw light on the changing principles of chemotherapy and allied aspects of tuberculosis such as immunology.
Tufts University
Children/Education
We are known for our international perspective. Seventy years ago, the Fletcher School was founded. During his visit to campus a few years ago, President Clinton remarked on the foresight of Tufts to found the first school of international relations in the country, at a time of great isolationism in the U.S. Over time Fletcher has infected the rest of the university in a very healthy way. If you look at how each of our schools describes itself, each takes pride in the fact that among its peers, it is international in orientation. Certainly, that is manifested in Arts and Sciences, where International Relations is one of our most popular majors. Also, a significant number of our undergraduates study abroad, and our professional schools engage in international activities. For two out of the last three years, Tufts has led the nation in the number of Peace Corps volunteers. Our international dimension positions us well in this time of global interdependence.
Tukae
Research/Dev
Tukae is based near Amani in the East Usambara Mountains in the Tanga region of northern Tanzania, East Africa. Tukae is a Tanzanian-initiated project led by personnel from the UK, we are involved in work that is wanted by local people and for which there is a clearly identified need. We are very much community based and needs driven. The underpinning philosophy is that by equipping people with appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities, opportunities and decision-making processes are enhanced and peoples' abilities to make choices are improved. When both the range and quality of choice is enhanced then the opportunity to move out of poverty is significantly reinforced.

Support from local and international donors has enabled the organisation to function. The organisation operates a shelter providing accommodation to around +- 90 boys of between 8 and 20 years of age. Accommodation is provided on a full time basis and the boys are enrolled in local schools, are involved in training or undertake some kind of employment. Two Wings Network
Research/Dev
In the understanding of TwoWings, to release the potential of the people is the basis for every sustained development. The philosophy TwoWings is committed to, is to enable a future through education – releasing human potential. This idea serves as central theme in regard to all projects that TwoWings supports world-wide. Because only if the people whom we want to support, are not permanently dependent on our assistance but understand the support as impulse to become active themselves in changing and improving their situation, can this assistance be of lasting benefit. Education is thereby the key to success.

Ubuntu
Community/Family
A small grassroots project has become an organisation with a strategic plan for long-term, sustainable development. We began in a small storage place in an elementary school. Our new centrally located 2500 square foot headquarters in Zwide Township is a symbol of hope. Today Ubuntu is reaching over 40,000 children with life-saving health and educational resources and services. We are proud of the numbers, but most of all we are proud of our staff and the children who are taking advantage of being the first generation of free South Africans. Our first strategy was to hold meetings amongst community members and listen to their ideas.
