Lambano Sanctuary was founded in May 2001 by Melanie Prinsloo and Leon van den Berg mainly because of a calling on their lives. Being a market researcher by profession, Melanie identified a great need for a family-based home for HIV/AIDS babies in South Africa. In 2001 she visited all the children's homes in the Gauteng Province and found that most of them are for abandoned babies with the view of adoption, but when the babies test HIV positive, most of the existing homes are not equipped to keep the babies longer term. It was decided that a home for babies that test HIV positive would be opened with the view of providing a home for as long as such a child would need one.

Environment
When the Alliance was created in 1982, there were fewer than 450 local and state land trusts across the country. The first land trusts were true pioneers with little money, but lots of pluck and determination. They formed the Alliance because they believed that by sharing policy, information and training, they could strengthen the work of land trusts everywhere. Today, the result of our work has been the creation of a vibrant, national movement of 1,700 organizations which has now conserved over 37 million acres. The Alliance is the only organization dedicated to the effectiveness and sustainability of the nation's land trusts and their use of conservation easements. We are proud that today we have approximately 1.5 million people as supporters and members of land trusts.

Environment
We are a registered environment charity, working mainly in urban and urban fringe areas, to bring nature and people closer together. By using simple wildflower mixes, based on common core species, we aim to create wildlife areas which have sustainable links to their communities. We receive grants from both public and private sectors to undertake project work. We also have a trading company Landlife Wildflowers selling seeds and plants grown on Merseyside.

The organisation has been in operation 2004 and has already demonstrated significant delivery on its mandate. It has developed a high profile and achieved significant successes in the projects developed or undertaken. The focus of tour work will range from protected area expansion and consolidation, to addressing climate change and desertification, to social and economic upliftment of people through building the conservation economy, to any action leading to conservation-friendly and compatible land-uses, to species conservation. Conservation will be seen in its broadest context to include the living and cultural landscape.

Laniado is a hospital founded and operating on the principle that compassion, kindness and sympathy are the threads with which we can bind all humanity, irrespective of race or religion. We do not ask of our patients faith, we ask how we can best care for them when they are at their most vulnerable. Our multicultural staff – Arabs and Jews working side by side – are chosen not only for their expertise, but also for their belief in the respect for all life. Our hospital is a symbol of what can be achieved when human beings come together with understanding and sympathy. Laniado is a haven of peace for today and a beacon of hope for tomorrow.

Research/Dev
The Lankenau Institute for Medical Research (LIMR) has its roots in biomedical investigations initiated in the late 1800s at The Lankenau Hospital, which at that time was called The German Hospital of Philadelphia and was located at Girard and Corinthian Avenues in the City. Using its medical connections in Germany, where so many medical and biochemical advances have occurred historically, the Hospital had many firsts in Philadelphia such as the first bacteriological and chemical laboratory and the first X-ray imaging device. During the past two decades there has been a great expansion of research at Lankenau into the genetics and cell biology of cancer, cardiovascular disease, aging, and transgenic mouse models of disease.

Animals/Wildlife
We conserve and restore ecosystems and landscapes as habitats and ecological substrates for large herbivores, we also conserve and restore all wild large herbivore species in viable and natural spread populations. We use domestic substitutes of extinct large herbivore species, to restore the ecological functions of large herbivores in landscapes. De-domestication and re- wilding of these grazers will be part of this process, while increasing knowledge and appreciation of large herbivores by people.

LAST CHANCE ANIMAL RESCUE CENTRE was founded in 1986, its aim being to rescue and re-home unwanted and abandoned animals. We take in all creatures, from cats and dogs to rabbits, chickens etc. Our kennels are constantly filled from two main sources: local rescue dogs, and the Welsh 'pound dogs' saved from their death row sentence. For many it truly is their Last Chance. Our new veterinary surgeon checks, worms and inoculates all animals, and operates a rigorous neutering policy, as we strongly believe this makes a happier pet and is the most important way to reduce the escalating problem of pet overpopulation. We also indenti-chip all our dogs and cats. We have a non-destruction policy, except on humane grounds, and carry out individual home checks before any animal is placed into a new home, along with follow up visits to ensure the animal has settled. Every eligible dog, cat or rabbit leaves our Rescue Centre with 4 weeks free insurance from a leading company, new owners are then given an opportunity to extend such cover by subscribing to the scheme. Our staff are always available to give advise on training or behavioural questions and are there to assist if needed.

Environment
Last Chance for Animals (LCA) recognizes that animals have the ability to experience pain, and as such they deserve certain basic rights protecting them from pain caused by humans. LCA believes that non-human animals should not be subjected to suffering and exploitation by humans because alternatives exist for nearly every traditional "usage" of animals. LCA opposes the use of animals for scientific curiosity, entertainment, clothing, and food. LCA recognizes the use of non-human animals in medical experimentation as both immoral and of questionable scientific validity due to the tremendous biological difference between species.

Established in 2008 the Foundation works with individuals, organisations and businesses with an interest or passion for Latin America to help support grass-root projects that have genuine benefit on communities throughout the region. Thanks to the support of members, the LATA Foundation has already begun to make a difference. Over 20,000 trees were planted in Peru in January 2009 and we are helping to fund a cottage industry in Guatemala to produce natural cosmetics. We have begun a waste-management and recycling project in Brazil and are supporting the work of Children of the Andes in Colombia. Throughout summer 2009 we raised funds for a new clinic to provide free dental care to disadvantaged children in Buenos Aires.

The school was designed to provide students with a rigorous college-preparatory education in the classical tradition, with a curriculum that was heavily influenced by Classical studies and the study of the Greek and Latin languages, hence the name "Latin School." Latin is still taught at the school today and is offered starting in sixth-grade.

The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust is the only UK charity funding ongoing research, specifically into cancer in teenagers and young adults (13-24 year-olds), where cancer often strikes in its rarer and more complex forms, often requiring harsh regimes of treatment in an attempt to save lives. The trust also funds various measures to improve the lives of these young cancer patients whilst they are undergoing treatment.

Through research and education, the Law Enforcement Education Program (LEEP) promotes numerous programs, including Students on Sobriety (S.O.S), which educates teens about the legal, financial and human costs of drinking and driving. The law enforcement speakers bureau officials visit high schools to deliver the message of the dangers and penalties of drinking and driving. With our Project SafeKids Program we offer free child identification CD-ROMs to concerned parents at local community events. The “Amber Alert” compatible CDs contain the child’s fingerprints and current photo and are given to the parents for safekeeping in case of an emergency. The Amber Alert System is active in all 50 states and used by a majority of law enforcement agencies for missing children reports. We offer a scholarship for students interested in pursuing a career in Public Safety and all of its related fields — Law Enforcement, Police-Fire Dispatch, Corrections Officer, Firefighting or Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT).
