Fondation Chirac

Based in FRA France
Research/Dev

Jacques Chirac has always pursued his political ambition of fostering an international culture of mutual respect, forging ties between worlds and building a more harmonious global society. Throughout his political life, he worked to ensure that peace prevailed over the forces of war, solidarity over indifference, sharing over selfish considerations and responsibility over fatalism. As an ardent activist for cultural diversity, Jacques Chirac seeks to give genuine meaning to the universal principle of the equal dignity of men and women and people. Thus, in order to encourage the shift towards a sustainable model of development, which includes this indispensable dimension, he is of those who advocate a dialogue between cultures and civilizations. Through the Fondation Chirac, he still pursues his goal of acting in the service of peace.

Fondation Kantha Bopha

Based in CHE Switzerland
Health/Medical

Since 1991, five hospitals and a maternity ward for HIV positive mothers were built and are fully operating. The Kantha Bopha Children's Hospitals has been progressively extended and modified to meet the most urgent needs. All medical services are free of charge since the families in Cambodia are simply too poor to even make a small contribution towards these medical costs. Without Kantha Bopha, 3'200 additional children would die in Cambodia every month. Kantha Bopha has become a highly respected model for the entire Southeast Asian region of just how efficient direct medical and humanitarian aid -i.e., correct medication unhampered by corruption combined with targeted long-term training - can be in the areas of curative and preventive medicine as well as in research.

Fondation Kind & Autismus

Based in CHE Switzerland
Disability

In 1975 a group of concerned parents and specialists founded a special scool for children with autism in an apartment in Zurich. With the growing need for specialized education for children with autism and related sensory integration problems the institution needed bigger and better equipped facilities. Thanks to the approval of the education board of Zurich and the federal office for social security the institution was able to acquire the property at the Bergstrasse 28 in Urdorf in 1991 and changed its name in the year 2000 to «Stiftung Kind & Autismus» (Foundation Child & Autism). It became a unique school and counseling/information center for children and adolescents with autism and related sensory integration problems.

Fondation Lucie et André Chagnon

Children/Education

Our primary focus is the educational success of young Quebecers, enabling them to become independent, fulfilled parents who will be able to create a culture of personal and collective success within their family and social circle. A recent study has shown that there is a definite link between having a high-school diploma and the health and well-being of the Quebec population. We believe that taking action early on—helping children develop healthy lifestyles—is the key to educational success and good health. Our intervention strategy consists in mobilizing local communities and raising society awareness. We promote the optimal development (physical, psychological, cognitive and social) of children from conception to age 17, we carry out early, sustained interventions to make sure children get off to a good start at school with healthy lifestyles in terms of nutrition and physical activity.

Fondazione Zegna

Based in ITA Italy
Research/Dev

Fondazione Zegna was set up on 1st December 2000 by the Zegna family. Our aim is to give continuity to the values, philosophy and work of Ermenegildo Zegna, who in 1910 in Trivero, in the Biella Alps, founded the wool mill that carries his name to this day. Following his example, quality and dedication may live in harmony with protection of our natural environment, social wellbeing and the cultural development of the local community. Fondazione Zegna is based in Trivero, where Casa Zegna, an historical archive and cultural center, and Oasi Zegna, an "open-air laboratory" covering over 100 km2 and focusing on relationships between people, mountain culture and nature, are also situated. As the Zegna Group grows, the Foundation plans and coordinates international humanitarian initiatives in four areas of activity: conservation and amelioration of environmental and cultural resources; fostering of sustainable development in local communities, in Italy and beyond; support for medical and scientific research; education and training for young people. We support and fund projects in co-operation with no-profit organizations operating in various fields and different parts of the world. A Scientific Committee comprising experts from various fields advises the Board on policy and on assessment and selection of projects to support.

Fonkoze USA

Based in USA United States
Microfinance

It is the largest microfinance institution (MFI) in Haiti, serving more than 55,000 women borrowers, most of whom live and work in the countryside of Haiti, and more than 175,000 savers. With its network of 37 branches covering every region of Haiti, it is also the only MFI that is truly national in scope. Fonkoze is one of the few MFIs in Haiti that is truly grass-roots. Fonkoze was founded in 1994 by a Haitian Catholic priest who started the institution with little more than the vision to provide the means for all Haitians, even the poorest, to participate in the economic development of the country. His target group was women, because as he declared, “Women are the backbone of the Haitian economy and the doorway into the family unit." Fonkoze attacks illiteracy in Haiti through its pioneering educational program that combines basic literacy training with practical education in subjects such as business development, sexual and reproductive health, and effective use of financial services.

Fonte di Speranza

Based in ITA Italy
Children/Education

Fonte di Speranza is a small, non-religious and independent organization. Donations collected thanks to the initiatives of information and sensitization, are transferred directly to the humanitarian workers and to the non-religious and religious organizations, that work on site. Their constant and direct presence in the places of intervention allows the projects to be set up, controlled and managed. We are in direct contact with them, in as much as communications make it possible, and where the socio-political situation allows, we visit their projects in Africa and Asia, delivering the financial aid directly into "their hands". The projects that we support are financed by voluntary donations only that we receive from individual citizens and from other voluntary organizations that contribute through their members, we don't receive contributions from national and/or international public institutions.

Food & Friends

Based in USA United States
Health/Medical

Reverend Carla Gorrell founded Food & Friends in 1988 when a friend, sick at home with AIDS, needed something to eat. What began as lunch for one has become 3 meals a day, for more than 1,450 individuals, six days a week. Over the past decade, we have moved from a cramped church basement to our own state-of-the-art kitchen and pantry facility and initiated new programs to meet the changing needs of people living with HIV/AIDS and other life-challenging illnesses in the Washington, DC, metropolitan community. For people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses, the battle is far from over. We just make sure no one has to face it on an empty stomach. Since 1988, Food & Friends has provided food and companionship to our clients, their loved ones and caregivers. At Food & Friends, we consider nutrition to be a vital part of the treatment for a life-challenging illness. Our Community Dietitians provide individual nutrition counseling to all of our clients and interested individuals in the community who are living with life-challenging illnesses.

Food & Trees for Africa

Based in ZAF South Africa
Environment

Food & Trees for Africa is a Section 21 social enterprise registered with the Department of Welfare and the Public Benefits Department. It was established in 1990. In 1990 a group of concerned individuals, representing the major greening organisations in South Africa, came together with the realisation that the real environmental crisis in this country centred on people, uplifting quality of life and addressing climate change. They recognized that a simple way of achieving this was through the greening of unhealthy, denuded and degraded landscapes. This was the birth of Food & Trees for Africa(FTFA), the first (and still only) South African social enterprise that develops, promotes and facilitates greening, climate change action, food security and sustainable natural resource use and management, known as Trees for Africa until 2000.

Food Animal Concerns Trust

Based in USA United States
Community/Family

Founded by Robert A. Brown in 1982, FACT is supported by contributions and primarily works in two areas: on-farm research and advocacy. FACT was the first U.S. organization devoted exclusively to farm animal problems. As a result of our effective and sustained advocacy efforts, FACT has a close working relationship with the Food and Drug Administration, the US Department of Agriculture, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and with international committees that set standards for drug use and humane care of farm animals. Our on-farm research has given FACT extensive farming experience and firsthand knowledge. FACT then makes science-based recommendations to agricultural, public health, and environmental organizations and, especially, to federal regulatory agencies.
