At the heart of today’s organization are the participants, who are lifelong learners engaged in programs that foster camaraderie and a sense of community.
Electronic Frontier Foundation
Human Rights
When our freedoms in the networked world come under attack, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is the first line of defense. Blending the expertise of lawyers, policy analysts, activists, and technologists, EFF achieves significant victories on behalf of consumers and the general public. EFF fights for freedom primarily in the courts, bringing and defending lawsuits even when that means taking on the US government or large corporations. EFF beats back bad legislation. In addition to advising policymakers, EFF educates the press and public. Since its founding in 1990, EFF has consistently taken critical cases, challenged tough opponents, and achieved landmark victories. EFF has prevailed in lawsuits against the federal government, the FCC, the world's largest entertainment companies, and major electronics companies, among others. EFF has also beaten bills in Congress and pressured companies to respect your rights.
Elephant Family
Animals/Wildlife
The Asian elephant is a truly magnificent creature. But sadly it’s on the brink of extinction, marooned in ever-decreasing pockets of forest by the spread of human settlements, farming, mining and railways. In the past 100 years, the elephant population in Asia has shrunk by 90%. In another 30 years, it could easily vanish altogether. We’re the only charity in the UK that’s dedicated solely to this cause – and we rely on the efforts of our entire family network to help us succeed. Our vision is a world in which the Asian elephant is no longer an endangered species. A world in which these magnificent creatures can live alongside humans in harmony – and roam their ancestral lands in safety. We’ve been working with the Wildlife Trust of India to secure the corridor, protect the elephants within it and help local villagers find a better life elsewhere. Another success has been the developing an ‘eco village’ in the Rajaji National Park in India to limit the impact of firewood collection and livestock grazing. We are running a conservation response unit and daily patrols in Gunung Leuser National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia, to reduce human-elephant conflict and we work with vets and mahouts to improve the welfare of captive elephants.

Our residents are not required to perform or entertain for the public; instead, they are encouraged to live like elephants.
Elizabeth Finn Care
Community/Family
Elizabeth Finn Care has been helping people overcome the worst effects of poverty for over a century. We're here to support people who were once self-sufficient, but who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in need of help. We help people who have fallen below the poverty line. We help ordinary people who have been overcome by circumstances, such as family breakdown, redundancy, injury, physical or mental illness. We help nurses, teachers, farmers, solicitors, accountants, and people from the armed services. We also help those who find themselves struggling to survive in retirement or who are unable to return to work, due to a long term disability or sickness, to have as normal a life as possible. We provide care and individual attention through contact with our well-trained, understanding and experienced caseworkers and volunteer visitors. This enables our beneficiaries – who may also lack supportive family or social networks – to feel valued and cared for once again.

Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
Health/Medical
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation is a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS. We’re working in 17 countries around the world to provide HIV prevention, care, and treatment services for women, children, and families—with a mission to eliminate pediatric AIDS. Thanks to the Foundation, pediatric AIDS has been virtually eliminated in the United States. We’ve also made remarkable strides throughout the world: nearly half of HIV-positive pregnant women in low- and middle-income countries now receive medicines to help prevent transmission of HIV to their babies — triple the percentage from just three years earlier. One in four of those women receive their medicines through Foundation-supported programs. Yet despite our progress, nearly 1,200 children are still infected with HIV every day because their mothers don’t have access to the medicines they need to prevent transmission of the virus. We can — and must — change this.
Elton John AIDS Foundation
Health/Medical
The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) was established in the United States in 1992 by Sir Elton John. EJAF's U.S. office is located in New York City. EJAF regularly evaluates its grant-making priorities within the context of the ever-changing challenges and needs of the evolving HIV/AIDS epidemic, targeting its grant awards where they will make the greatest impact. This approach has clearly resonated with our donors, and their generous response over the past two years has enabled us to increase EJAF’s grant making by 140%. We have expanded not only the amount of money given but also strategically targeted key populations that are poorly served by current prevention efforts and most at risk of infection including: critically under-funded communities of the Southern United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America; highly marginalized populations such as injection drug users, men who have sex with men, and incarcerated individuals; and underserved populations such as African Americans and young people.
Elton John Aids Foundation

The Elton John AIDS Foundation in the UK has funded over 1,100 projects worldwide with grants totaling more than £40 million. We are the largest HIV/AIDS grant maker in the UK and one of the 20 largest international AIDS charities. Our grant programmes have already helped millions of people infected, affected or at risk of HIV/AIDS to receive medical and social care, food, training, housing, legal protection, counselling and emotional support. We have also enabled 150 million people from around the globe to access HIV/AIDS information.
Emergency
Health/Medical
Emergency is an independent, neutral and non-political Italian organization. Emergency provides free, high quality medical and surgical treatment to the civilian victims of war, landmines and poverty. Emergency promotes a culture of solidarity, peace and respect for human rights. In today’s conflicts 90% of victims are civilians. Every year war destroys the lives of millions of people around the world. The work of Emergency around the world is possible thanks to the help of thousands of volunteers and supporters. Two basic factors are weighed before Emergency decides whether or not to undertake a project: the effective need for specialist medical or surgical services and the absence of similar humanitarian projects in the given country. Emergency builds and runs Hospitals specifically dedicated to war victims, surgical emergencies and specialist therapy in places where there are none. We build Physical and Social Rehabilitation Centres for the victims of anti-personnel mines and other war injuries and we offer first Aid Posts (FAPs) for emergency treatment, health centres for basic medical assistance, and paediatric centres. Emergency trains national staff to meet highly professional standards. We also offer humanitarian aid to prisoners in conflict zones and we set up development projects in the countries where it operates.

Empower Tanzania, Inc.
Research/Dev
Empower Tanzania Inc (ETI) was established in 2008 to work together with rural Tanzanians to improve their quality of life. ETI is addressing issues such as health care, education, agriculture practices, markets for products, and increasing water supply and quality. We believe these are underlying issues that hinder resiliency in the rural areas. Solving rural development challenges requires working together with communities to create a vision and a long term commitment beyond the life of a project. ETI pursues this approach through all we do. Empower Tanzania Inc is a US based non-profit working through our local Tanzanian affiliate, managed by nationals. We have unique community-to-community connections and our members have many years of economic development work in Tanzania and beyond, through a variety of other organizations. This brings rich and diverse relationships with partners who we work with. By working together with communities and local stakeholders to identify needs and find solutions, we believe that we can provide a lasting solution to economic development.

Enabling Access To Sustainable Energy
Research/Dev
EASE stands for Enabling Access to Sustainable Energy. The EASE partnership aims to bring modern energy products to the rural poor in developing countries, by facilitating the upscaling processes in the rural energy sector and local energy markets. EASE projects start by better understanding the realities of the energy needs of the poor, and their local energy markets of shopkeepers, technicians, promoters and (micro)financiers. By presenting the bottlenecks in these local markets, EASE partners design and implement projects with a lasting impact.
