Diabetes UK is the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes, funding research, campaigning and helping people live with the condition. We have over 160,000 members. We work for people with diabetes, their carers, family and friends. We represent the interests of all people with diabetes by lobbying the government for better standards of care and the best quality of life. Diabetes UK aims to invest over £6 million in research in 2010 to improve the treatment of diabetes and search for a cure.

Diamond Development Initiatives (DDI) is a Nigerian not-for-profit organization that complements the role of development agencies, donors, and other funding organizations by providing technical assistance in the design, planning and implementation of various development initiatives. We are committed to promoting continued research on the gorillas and their threatened ecosystems and to providing education about their relevance to the world in which we live. In collaboration with government agencies and other international partners, we also provide assistance to local communities through education, health, training and development initiatives. Our gorilla conservation activities take place on many levels and places, with people from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the United States, and around the world. The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund has been protecting and studying gorillas for more than 40 years, never leaving even during the most difficult times.

Dikembe Mutombo says his aspirations have always been focused on improving the living conditions and well being of the Congolese population. On September 15, 2001, his dream became a reality as he witnessed the historic groundbreaking of the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center, a new 10-acre, 300–bed facility dedicated to the memory of his beloved mother. The Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center in Dikembe's hometown of Kinshasa will provide special care to the nation's poorest residents and train its health professionals with the latest innovations in health care. Mutombo has already contributed over $15 million toward the $29 million project. The Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center is one of the very few well-equipped and modern hospitals in the DR Congo. Mutombo believes the addition of this new facility will be effective in diminishing some of the major health gaps within his country.

Diospi Suyana is a non-profit-organization which aims to establish and maintain a mission hospital in the Peruvian Andes. Approximately 750,000 people, predominantly indigenous, live within a 3 hour radius of Curahuasi. The Diospi Suyana Hospital wants to offer comprehensive care to the Quechua people, who are the rightful descendants of the ancient Incas. The facility will be equipped with 55 beds, 4 operating rooms, intensive care, laboratory and x-ray unit. Some 80 Peruvian employees find jobs at the hospital. Another 30 volunteers from abroad are financed through support groups in their countries of origin. We hold a integral view of man with physical, emotional and spiritual needs. By tackling against human suffering we try to set a convincing example of God’s love for the needy.

Since 1948, Direct Relief International has worked to help people who confront enormous hardship to improve the quality of their lives. The tradition of direct and targeted assistance, provided in a manner that respects and involves the people served, has been a hallmark of the organization since its founding. As Direct Relief celebrates its 60th anniversary, it marks a major milestone: Since 2000, Direct Relief has provided $1 billion in direct aid through medical material assistance and targeted cash grants serving 49.8 million people in 59 countries worldwide. We work to strengthen the in-country health efforts of our partners by providing essential material resources - medicines, supplies and equipment.
Disability
Disability Action is unique in its work, as it is the only Northern Ireland wide pan disability organisation working with disabled people with various disabilities; physical, mental, sensory and hidden. Our work is important as one in five people in Northern Ireland has a disability. As a campaigning body, we represent the views of our 180 member groups, working to bring about positive change to the social, economic and cultural life of people with disabilities and consequently to our entire community.

Disability Challengers is a registered charity, established in 1979, dedicated to providing exciting and challenging play and leisure opportunities to disabled children and young people. We do this through our play and youth centres in Guilford and Farnham, Surrey and through our range of community based projects across the county. Another significant benefit of our service is that it provides families with short-breaks during high pressure times e.g. at the weekend or during the school holidays, enabling them to do ‘ordinary’ activities such as shopping or spending time with their other children.

DLC is a private, non-profit organization responsible for providing protection and advocacy for the rights of Massachusetts residents with disabilities. We provide information, referral, technical assistance and representation regarding legal rights and services for people with disabilities. We provide legal services to eligible people and groups whose cases meet DLC’s priorities. We seek to strike a balance between systemic advocacy and individual representation. Our experienced lawyers and paralegals conduct trainings for community groups and other advocacy organizations.

Disability Rights UK was formed through a unification of Disability Alliance, Radar and National Centre for Independent Living on 1 January 2012. Disability Rights UK is the leading charity of its kind in the UK. We are run by and for people with lived experience of disability or health conditions. Our key decisions are made through our members who elect the Board of Trustees: and by our Senior Management Team (SMT). We work with our members to influence national policy on independent living, benefits, education, employment, transport, human rights and other issues - shaping policy through direct experience and expertise. We also work with our local individual and organisation members to empower and to influence local policy and services.

DSA is one of Australia's largest and most respected providers of employment and community support services for people with a disability, providing support for more than 2000 people. We focus on meeting individual needs and achieving positive outcomes. We support each person to attain the highest possible quality of life through engagement in all day to day aspects of living. Disability Services Australia provides individual, drop-in and shared support from as little as four hours a week through to 24/7. Our aim is to provide each person with the opportunity to gain new skills, enhance existing skills and engage in a variety of valued life roles in their community. Our "Specialist Intervention Service" offers families supporting a person with a disability who has complex and/or problem behaviours access to a team of dedicated and experienced behavioural specialists (psychologists).

The 1.2 million-member Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is a non-profit 501(c)(4) charity dedicated to building better lives for America’s disabled veterans and their families. The DAV was founded in 1920 by disabled veterans returning from World War I to represent their unique interests. In 1932, the DAV was congressionally chartered as the official voice of the nation’s wartime disabled veterans.

Disabled Living, based in Greater Manchester, has given an invaluable service to disabled people of all ages for over 110 years. Today, we offer a comprehensive range of services to improve the quality of life of disabled people, their families and carers. The Disabled Living Equipment Centre provides advice and information about equipment and products to help people make a more informed choice that will enable easier, safer and more independent living. Other services include: Training - on most aspects of disability and which is aimed at professional and informal carers; PromoCon – a comprehensive resource and confidential help-line for people with bladder and bowel problems and the Sensurround offers multi sensory experiences.
Human Rights
In 1998, the Disarmament & Security Centre (DSC) was established as a specialist centre of the Peace Foundation, directed by Kate Dewes and Robert Green from their Christchurch home. The broad objective of the DSC is to provide a resource centre for alternative thinking on disarmament and security issues, both within Aotearoa/New Zealand and internationally. Currently the work focuses on promoting the World Court's 1996 Advisory Opinion on nuclear weapons and its implications; exposing the fallacies of nuclear deterrence and offering safer alternative security strategies; promoting the United Nations Study on Disarmament and Non Proliferation Education; and implementing the Peace City recommendations adopted by the Christchurch City Council in May 2002.
Humanitarian Aid
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) was formed in 1963. We are an umbrella organisation for 13 humanitarian aid agencies. At times of overseas emergency, the DEC brings together a unique alliance of the UK's aid, corporate, public and broadcasting sectors to rally the nation's compassion, and ensure that funds raised go to DEC agencies best placed to deliver effective and timely relief to people most in need.

We, The Discovery Eye Foundation, fund cutting-edge research to find new treatments and cures for retinal and corneal eye diseases. WE EMPOWER PEOPLE : We empower people with up-to-date, accurate information and personalized support through the Macular Degeneration Partnership and the National Keratoconus Foundation. Founded in 1970 by Rita and Morris Pynoos, we are dedicated to finding cures and treatments for corneal and retinal eye disease, particularly as related to diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, ocular herpes, keratoconus and other degenerative conditions. Not only do we support doctors in the early stages of groundbreaking eye research, we reach out around the globe to the people who are suffering from these terrible eye diseases.

Discovery House is a non-profit organization that concentrates on the prevention of family violence in Calgary and area. Our unique role in the scope of violence prevention is providing families with long term emotional, economic, and practical support when leaving a violent home or situation. Discovery House was created in 1980 under the name of the Calgary Family Support Society. It was created to provide families who had experienced repeated violence a safe place to recover for an extended period of time. Discovery House reconfigured an existing apartment building, provided furnished suites at a subsidized rental rate, and began hosting families for up to six months. Twenty five years later, these core services continue to be provided. Along with safe and secure housing, families also receive free individual and group counseling.

Divya Disha is a Non Government organization working for empowerment of children and young people since 1987. We have created meaningful change for thousands of children and young people in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Divya Disha is all about Love, Compassion, and Empathy towards the under-privileged children and young people who are the country's future. The philosophy of Divya Disha evolved based on the need of children and young people who were victims of abuse, exploitation, and neglect. The organization is actively involved in prevention, rescue, rehabilitation, restoration and social reintegration, empowerment of children and young people on the streets through innovative strategies.
Children/Education
The Dizzy Feet Foundation is a nonprofit organization created to benefit the dance community. It provides scholarships and assistance to talented, underserved young people in order to help them realize their dreams of becoming professional dancers. The foundation also aims to elevate and standardize the quality of dance instruction throughout the United States by offering accreditation and/or certification to dance schools and studios in most styles of dance, including ballroom, contemporary, ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop. The foundation’s Accreditation Program will be the gold standard for dance instruction in the United States; it will ensure that students can feel confident that they are receiving high-quality dance instruction aligned to a national standard. The Dizzy Feet Foundation will also sponsor, fund and/or offer community-based dance programs that will expose children in low-income areas to the lifelong benefits of dance education.
