Boys Choir of Harlem

The organization is dedicated to providing students with a broad-based education as it prepares them for productive adulthood. The Boys Choir of Harlem offers an internationally recognized holistic year-round program that addresses the social, educational and developmental needs of high-risk, inner-city students. The 35 to 40 boys who appear in the boys' Performing Choir are selected for their academic performance, attendance and progress at rehearsals as well as vocal quality. All the students at the Choir Academy of Harlem take daily classes that include music history, theory, voice and an instrument. The BCH has been involved in the celebration of some significant milestones. It has participated in the United Nations' 50th anniversary concert at Avery Fisher Hall with New York Philharmonic under the baton of Kurt Masur, the Statue of Liberty's centennial, Nelson Mandela's first visit to the United States, the quincentenary of Columbus' arrival, Pope John Paul II's sunrise mass in Central Park and the 1993 presidential inauguration. It also performed in Pavarotti in Concert, which was taped before a live audience of a half-million and broadcast into more than 30 million American homes and 48 countries worldwide. The choir has recorded a pop album, BCH — Up In Harlem. African-American spirituals and gospel, jazz, pop and hip-hop songs are choreographed to enhance the group's stage presence.

Boys Town was founded by Alexander S. Linchner, a Brooklyn-born rabbi who, after the Holocaust, devoted his life to building a school for the children of immigrants who poured into Israel from countries around the world. His goal: providing them with a quality education that would prepare them to build the State of Israel with technological skill and traditional Jewish idealism.Today, the beautiful, 18-acre Boys Town campus in the Bayit Vegan neighborhood of Jerusalem is one of Israel's major technological training centers.

We provide help and reassurance to those experiencing life challenges that include: physical and emotional abuse, alcohol and drug abuse, homelessness, low literacy, long-term unemployment and mental illness. We recognise that each person is unique, with their own needs. To help address this, we provide a wide range of services. We offer one-on-one counselling to thousands of young people and their families via our Kids Helpline and Parentline telephone and online help services. Young people can also obtain work, gain valuable work experience, training, learn life skills and at the same time, receive counselling support to deal with their individual life challenges. We assist more than 2,500 young people access training and employment, helping them build a brighter future, while providing accommodation and support to more than 80 families who are homeless or need support due to domestic violence. Thanks to BoysTown hundreds of young people develop improved life skills through programs on budgeting, parenting, cooking, conflict resolution, communication and healthy relationships.

We support research projects undertaken in universities and hospitals in the South West of the UK, particularly in Bristol, which is a centre of excellence for neuroscience research. BRACE has raised over £10 million to help support diverse research projects into all aspects of dementia. On average we are supporting 15 researchers at any one time from PhD students to Senior Research Fellows. BRACE is one of only a few charities that exists specifically to finance dementia research - this work is vital if future generations are to be free from the fear of this devastating illness.

The Brady Center works to reform the gun industry by enacting and enforcing sensible regulations to reduce gun violence, including regulations governing the gun industry. In addition, we represent victims of gun violence in the courts. We educate the public about gun violence through litigation, grassroots mobilization, and outreach to affected communities. The Brady Campaign works to pass and enforce sensible federal and state gun laws, regulations, and public policies through grassroots activism, electing public officials who support common sense gun laws, and increasing public awareness of gun violence. Through our Million Mom March and Brady Chapters, we work locally to educate, remember victims, and pass sensible gun laws, believing that children have the right to grow up in environments free from the threat of gun violence.

The involvement of Bread for all is based on the conviction that poverty and misery can only be overcome if all people can assert the rights they are entitled to: civil and political rights, gender equality, rights to education, to health, to food, to an intact environment, to peace.
