Eden Animal Rescue
Animals/Wildlife
Our work covers the Eden Valley areas of Penrith, Appleby, and Alston. No animals in our care are put to sleep, unless this is recommended by a qualified Veterinary surgeon. While an animal is in our care, we pay for veterinary bills for annual vaccinations, neutering and any treatment required. The scale of our work is enormous; annually we care for an average of 400 cats, 150 dogs, not to mention many hedgehogs, wild birds, rabbits, hamsters and any other animal which comes our way! Having only two part time employees, we rely heavily on the work of volunteers, both in fundraising and in the caring for the animals.

Eden Foundation
Research/Dev
There are 250,000 known plant species in the world, but only 20 of them provide 90% of our food. We believe that the key to prosperity for the poor lie in underexploited, edible trees and bushes, the lost treasures of Eden. In Niger, we bring them trees and bushes that can grow naturally in this dry area and give food, even in times of need. Since our arrival, Eden has served more than 2600 households in the region. The trees and bushes we offer have been researched at our local field station and need neither irrigation nor chemical fertilizers to grow. The method we use is called direct seeding and is adapted to the farmers' means.
Edge Institute
Research/Dev
EDGE Institute research provides essential information for the analysis of business risk, inducing market risk and risks emerging from the socio-political and regional environment. The EDGE Institute specialises in the collection of firm-level data through surveys and case studies to gain deeper insight into business attitudes, decisions and the operating environment. Our research provides information and analysis of value to two sets of stakeholders: decision-makers and participants in economic policy debates, inside and outside government, and firms and organisations evaluating risk in the 'real economy'. The EDGE Institute believes that improved national economic performance and greater quality are interdependent goals, which should be addressed simultaneously by economic policymakers, rather than independent objectives.

Educate Together
Community/Family
Educate Together is the representative organisation of the Educate Together schools and associations throughout the Republic of Ireland. It owes its origins to the movement to establish new multi-denominational primary schools, which emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s. By 1984, when Educate Together was established, there were three schools and the organisation acted as their co-ordinating body. Since then the movement has grown considerably. Educate Together aims to meet a growing need in Irish society for schools that recognise the developing diversity of Irish life and the modern need for democratic management structures. In particular, Educate Together guarantees children and parents of all faiths and none equal respect in the operation and governing of education.

Education For Choice
Community/Family
Education For Choice is the only UK-based educational charity dedicated to enabling young people to make informed choices about pregnancy and abortion. Education For Choice's work is focused on the word choice. Whilst we concentrate on the issue of abortion, as it is the issue that receives least attention, we believe that work with young people should value all pregnancy choices equally. Our ethos is that the best outcomes of unintended pregnancy occur when the woman involved has been able to make her own informed choice.
Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence
Human Rights
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) seeks to secure freedom from gun violence through research, strategic engagement and effective policy advocacy. CSGV is comprised of 48 national organizations working to reduce gun violence. Our coalition members include religious organizations, child welfare advocates, public health professionals, and social justice organizations. This diversity of member organizations allows us to reach a wide variety of grassroots constituencies who share our vision of non-violence. CSGV developed the long-term strategy to close illegal firearms markets as a way to focus the gun control movement on the huge gaps in our nation's gun laws that easily allow criminals to obtain firearms. This strategy includes implementation of policies such as closing the gun show loophole.
Educational Media Foundation
Children/Education
The specters of global climate change, dwindling resources, and endless war now haunt the very future of the planet and human civilization. Our ability to transform these current realities will depend on whether we are willing and able to imagine other possible futures. The project of the Media Education Foundation has always been informed by just this: the notion that language — and, by extension, images — define the limits, and possibilities, of human imagination and thought. The stakes have never been higher, and the necessity for education never more crucial. We offer resources designed to help spark discussion about some of the most pressing, and complicated, issues of our time, in one of the last independent spheres left in the society: the classroom. Our aim is to inspire students to think critically and in new ways about the hyper-mediated world around them.

Edukans
Children/Education
Edukans is a development organisation with a unique focus on basic education. Every child is entitled to have access to good quality basic education. Yet, world-wide, 80 million children do not attend school. For Edukans this is an unacceptable situation. Action has to be taken. Every child should have the opportunity to get relevant education. Edukans facilitates this in close cooperation with local partner organisations in developing countries. Edukans also recruits students in the Netherlands to take part in development work. These students gain more in-depth knowledge about the lives of their peers in developing countries and about longer-lasting, sustainable developments both in the Netherlands and the South. Basic principles and values for this so-called ‘global education’ are: ‘sharing’ and ‘living together’. This process starts in one’s own environment, but it also outreaches it: taking a stand for children in developing countries.

EFRAT
Health/Medical
When Mr. Herschel Feigenbaum arrived in Israel after surviving the Holocaust, he understood that our children are our future. In memory of the over one and a half million Jewish children who perished, Mr. Feigenbaum founded EFRAT, to increase the Jewish birthrate in Israel. EFRAT believes in a woman's right to free choice, and that information is the key to making an educated, well-thought-out choice. An elective abortion is a viable option only after a woman understands the full implications of her decision. EFRAT assists thousands of women who choose to continue their pregnancy with monthly food packages and basic baby equipment such as cribs, strollers, baby baths and layettes. EFRAT maintains several hostels to provide unmarried young women with a warm, caring environment, far away from the tension of social pressure. Since 1977, EFRAT has saved over 34,000 children.
