Sculpture By The Sea

Established in 1997, Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi is Australia's largest free to the public sculpture exhibition with over 100 sculptures by artists from across the world transforming Sydney's spectacular 2km Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk into a temporary sculpture park for all to enjoy from late October to mid November each year. Sculpture by the Sea is also committed to making sculpture more accessible to a wide range of audiences. By developing our programs and resources in accordance with the New South Wales Board of Studies Curriculum and the Western Australian Curriculum Framework, we aim to encourage both teachers and school students of all ages to expand their essential skills, knowledge and appreciation of sculpture as a visual art form.

Sea Turtle Conservancy was founded in 1959 by world-renowned sea turtle expert Dr. Archie Carr to save sea turtles from eminent extinction through rigorous science-based conservation. Headquartered in Florida, the organization carries out worldwide programs to conserve and recover sea turtle populations through research, education, advocacy and protection of the natural habitats upon which depend upon. Over the course of 50 years, Sea Turtle Conservancy's research programs have yielded much of what is now known about sea turtles and the threats they face, and the organization is applying this knowledge to carry out the world's most successful sea turtle protection and recovery programs.

All on an annual budget of under $50,000 a year. As always each dime donated to Sea Watch will go only to the projects we are involved in directly. Initially Sea Watch was the first to draw attention to the destruction of Giant Pacific Manta rays at the Revillagigedo Islands of Mexico. It lobbied hard to get the islands protected which happened in 1994. Sea Watch members again took the lead in 2002 to expose destructive longliners and gillnetters still illegally fishing at the Islands.

Many of these works can now be heard on re-mastered recordings recently issued on the Naxos label. The Symphony’s education programs, alongside its nationally recognized community engagement programs, bring classical music to nearly 90,000 people of all ages each year, including students at 190 schools in the Pacific Northwest.

This goal is achieved primarily through the seaturtle.org website and has included providing online access to the Marine Turtle Newsletter/Noticiero de Tortugas Marinas, supporting registration and administration of the Annual Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation, and providing valuable background information and support for conservation efforts related to the Inter-American Convention for the Protection and Conservation of Sea Turtles and X'cacel, Mexico. The organization is completely volunteer based and is the only animal sanctuary in the Durham region. In addition to caring for our fur bearing and feathered friends, we aim to educate our community regarding animal issues of the day.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN

Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee opened its doors in 1978 with commitment from several community leaders. The purpose of the organization was to provide a central distribution center for companies, groups and individuals who wished to help provide food for hungry people in Middle Tennessee. Today, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is one of the largest and most comprehensive of over 200 food banks and food distribution centers nationwide. During the 2011/2012 fiscal year, Second Harvest distributed 19,400,293 pounds of food to over 400 Partner Agencies providing more than 16 million meals of food to hungry men, women and children throughout our 46-county service area. Second Harvest’s vision of ending hunger is more important than ever. Hunger is a big problem, and we need everyone’s help to solve this issue. According to the USDA, an estimated 49 million Americans are at risk of hunger, and almost 14 million U.S. children under 18 are food insecure. One in four children in the state of Tennessee are food insecure, and in Middle Tennessee alone, 31 percent of the people Second Harvest serves are children.
