Animals/Wildlife

We are a small cat rescue charity based at and covering the Mid-Sussex area of southern England. On 29th July 2007 we held our 30th Birthday celebrations at the Rescue Centre along with the official opening of the new block. Thousands of animals have been rescued and re-homed over the years and no cat is put to sleep unless our vet advises it. Every cat is spayed or neutered, wormed, de-flea'd, microchipped and if necessary nursed to full health before being rehomed. Our work is entirely voluntary and all money raised goes to directly benefit the cats in our care.

Paws With A Cause

Based in USA United States
Disability

Paws With A Cause is a non-profit organization that serves people with disabilities through custom-trained Assistance Dogs. As we value the strength diversity brings to the workplace, PAWS is committed to the recruitment, retention and development of a workforce that reflects the diverse society in which we live. We would like to assure our supporters that we will continue to rescue dogs whenever possible. We also accept donations of dogs. It has always been a priority to rescue dogs to train as Assistance Dogs, however, we must keep our true mission in mind, which is to train Assistance Dogs for people with disabilities. While it may sound harsh, our primary goal is to facilitate the independence of people with disabilities through the use of Assistance Dogs, not to rescue dogs. Every dog we rescue is a bonus and a blessing, but our clients must be our top priority.

Human Rights

PBI is an international NGO that has been promoting nonviolence and protecting human rights since 1981. Our work is based on the principles of non-partisanship and non-interference in the internal affairs of the organisations we accompany. We believe that lasting transformation of conflicts cannot be imposed from outside, but must be based on the capacity and desires of local people. Therefore we do not take part in the work of the organisations we accompany. Rather our role is to open political space and provide moral support for local activists to carry out their work without fear of repression.

Peace One Day

Based in GBR United Kingdom
Human Rights

Jeremy Gilley is an actor turned filmmaker, who in the late 1990s became preoccupied with questions about the fundamental nature of humanity and the issue of peace. He decided to explore these through the medium of film, and specifically, to create a documentary following his campaign to establish an annual day of ceasefire and non violence. In 1999, Jeremy founded Peace One Day, a non-profit organisation, and in 2001 Peace One Day’s efforts were rewarded when the member states of the United Nations unanimously adopted the first ever day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21 September annually – Peace Day. What began as a single idea in 1999 has grown to a global event with millions of participants. Each year, 21 September marks Peace Day; a day for wide-scale community action, and a day for UN agencies and aid organisations to safely carry out life-saving work.

Our current work focuses on Uganda, where the government's recent provision of Universal Primary Education (UPE) is at risk of being undermined by a huge shortfall of affordable places at secondary level. Funds raised by Promoting Equality in African Schools pay for the start-up capital costs of school building projects. This means that PEAS schools have lower running costs and lower fees. Quite simply, PEAS makes quality secondary education available to far more young Ugandans. As well as founding schools, PEAS, in conjunction with London's Teach First programme, uses volunteers to help transfer best practice from UK schools to the newly built schools in Africa.
