We are a non-profit social development organization that uses microfinance as a tool for improving the housing conditions of South Africa’s poor communities. Our website tells you about our activities and impact and provides information on how you can contribute to our work. We support community groups to save towards housing and grant loans to individuals qualifying for the state housing subsidy. We believe that the poorest of the poor are credit-worthy, and that through mobilising savings they are able to build financial and social capital.

Kenya Voluntary & Community Development Project is a non-political, non-racial and non-profit making registered organization. The organization spans across many issues all geared towards the interventions that improve quality of life in the Kenyan communities. KVCDP was established and became operational in 2006. The organization was formed with the aim of promoting the orphan child well-being and economic empowerment for girls and women both mentally and economically through education, counseling and community sensitization. With the increase of HIV infections, especially among communities living along the shores of L. Victoria, the organization work include HIV/AIDS prevention education, care and support. It works to help girls and women empower themselves mentally and economically, through education, counseling and community sensitization. The women cannot be empowered unless girls are given the tools to realize their full potential.

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation supports networks between women’s organisations in various countries and regions. We collaborate with women's organisations who play an active part in peace and rebuilding processes. Our partner organisations help women legally and psychologically. They are involved in women's health issues and sexual and reproductive rights. They inform women, and men, of women's human rights. They empower and further educate women activists and politicians. They counteract violence against women and human trafficking. They educate authorities and influence decision-making processes and legislation. Women's organisations change society by spreading their knowledge and experience of democracy, reconciliation and peace work.

Kwacha Afrika Troupe (KAT) is a youth based community organization which is registered with the Ministry of Culture Social Services in Mombasa, Kenya. Apart from income generating activities, the members have been fully involved in HIV & AIDS awareness, prevention and care programs. KAT started as a group of youths and has now become one of the youth Community Based Organizations (CBO) in the Coast province of Kenya. Members of KAT are trained Peer educators and at present they are fully involved in the IMPACT project youth component which is being implemented by Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH). This project has enabled the members to be excellent communicators and they are also involved in post HIV Test clubs. As role models, all members of KAT have gone for HIV Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT). Our IMPACT project has provided much of the support for KAT. This support comes in the terms of training and working with them on a grass roots level. Other support has come from the Municipal Council of Mombasa and the local administration. KAT works in collaboration with other organizations.

The KwaZulu-Natal Society for the Blind was formed in 1919 and is situated near the city center in Durban. For 90 years the Society has offered rehabilitation services to blind and partially sighted children and adults in KwaZulu-Natal. The Society has evolved into a dynamic, multifaceted organization with its focus today on improving rehabilitation, education, habilitation and employment opportunities for the blind community we serve.

L'Albero della Vita offers daily assistance to all children who have been abandoned, giving them health assistance, food and schooling. But most of all, educating them with love so that today's child can become a happy adult tomorrow. L'Albero della Vita received The Silver Plaque from the President of the Republic for the elevated value of its activities. It was award a second Plaque in 2007 for its campaign Spokesman for Children's Rights. In Italy as in the poorest countries all over the world, at the heart of L'Albero della Vita's projects are the children and their rights. L'Albero della Vita carries out interventions to protect them better with the objective of safeguarding the right of every child to grow up in the best environmental, family, emotional and psychological conditions. n Italy we ensure care, protection, treatment and education to children who have been abandoned or removed from their families, support to youth in situations of uneasiness, and support to mothers in difficulty.

L'Arche is an international movement which builds faith based communities, with people with learning disabilities, all over the world. Our communities here in the UK support people with learning disabilities to reach their full potential. We provide homes to more than 100 people with learning disabilities alongside a similar number of assistants.

The History of L'Arche began in a little village in France in 1964. Jean Vanier, mentored by Father Thomas Philippe, set up home with Raphael Simi and Philippe Seux. Forty years later l'Arche has spread to five continents. In spite of integrating into hugely differing cultures, l'Arche has retained its own particular and special values and identity. l'Arche in Paris was started up in 1973 by four students. The community brings together a large diversity of members who take part in the life of the community, in keeping with their abilities and needs. L'Arche in Paris combines the deepening of an understanding of community with the development of support skills and the desire to live a nourishing spiritual life based on mutual respect for the beliefs of each.

L'Arche (French for "The Ark") began in 1964 when Jean Vanier invited two men confined within a local institution because of their intellectual disabilities to come live with him. Together they shared a small house in the French village, Trosly-Breuil, north of Paris which became their home. From this simple beginning, L'Arche has grown to more than 130 communities worldwide.

The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center provides a broad array of services for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, welcoming nearly a quarter-million client visits from ethnically diverse youth and adults each year. Through its Jeffrey Goodman Special Care Clinic and on-site pharmacy, the Center offers free and low-cost health, mental health, HIV/AIDS medical care and HIV/STD testing and prevention. The Center also offers legal, social, cultural, and educational services, with unique programs for seniors, families and youth, including a 24-bed transitional living program for homeless youth.

Founded in 1988, La Gerbe is an NGO focusing on humanitarian and social needs. We help people in need in France and abroad irrespective of nationality, religion, or political opinions. We offer accommodation to people in difficulty with appropriate help in all respects: material, moral and spiritual, while respecting personal convictions and dignity.

La Jolla Playhouse was founded in 1947 by Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire and Mel Ferrer, and was revived in 1983 under the leadership of Des McAnuff, who served as Artistic Director from 1983 to 1994. The Playhouse is a not-for-profit, professional theatre in residence situated on the magnificent campus of the University of California, San Diego. La Jolla Playhouse is located on the corner of La Jolla Village Drive and Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla, California. Under inspired leadership, La Jolla Playhouse has earned its place in the international theatre scene. The Playhouse’s brilliant and innovative productions of classics, new plays and musicals have merited over 300 major honors, including 29 Tony Awards for productions that have transferred to Broadway, along with the 1993 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre.

La Leche League was founded to give information and encouragement, mainly through personal help, to all mothers who want to breastfeed their babies. LLL believes that breastfeeding, with its many important physical and psychological advantages, is best for baby and mother and is the ideal way to initiate good parent-child relationships. LLL further believes that mothering through breastfeeding deepens a mother's understanding and acceptance of the responsibilities and rewards of her special role in the family. The League's purpose is distinct. This singleness of purpose does not prevent interaction with other organizations with compatible purposes, but La Leche League will carefully guard against allying itself with another cause, however worthwhile that cause may be.

La Strada develops and offers protection and prevention activities for trafficked persons, people vulnerable to trafficking and other affected groups. Capacity building constitutes a central element of the La Strada programme and is crucial. Because of their independent status, organisations at the grassroots level can win the confidence of women who consider migration to the West and provide them with reliable information on the risks involved and how to protect themselves against those risks. Trafficking reflects the poor social and legal position of women in many countries. It encourages deceit, abuse, violence, bonded labour, blackmail and deprivation of human rights. Trafficking currently flourishes in sex work, the agricultural, building and garment industries as well as the domestic labour and commercial marriage market.

LAAFI, Initiative for Development, is a charitable association, registered in Vienna since 1994. Purpose of LAAFI’s activities is the support of cooperative projects in a well defined area of Burkina Faso, West Africa. LAAFI sees itself as a mediator between donors and the local communities. We only try to secure resources for a specific proposed project – this helps to avoid opportunistic projects. Apart from the project-related dialogue, we participate in the daily life of the community and thereby create an informal interaction. This allows us to practice a model of cooperation which is beneficial to all.

Labrador Retriever Adoption Service is a non-profit organization staffed by volunteers who are dedicated to rescuing and re-homing Labrador Retrievers located in Ontario, Canada. It is our mission to place these loving labs in a home that provides them with the safety and security to live the happy lives they so truly deserve and to educate the public on responsibility of proper pet ownership. Once a dog is surrendered to Lab Rescue is evaluated, (spayed/neutered), immunized, micro-chipped and adopted. If the surrendered Lab can not reside in its current household they will be placed in a temporary foster home until a new loving permanent home can be located to place them in.
