Africa SOMA Inc. is a federally and provincially registered not-for profit, fully volunteer organization supporting small-scale educational initiatives in Kenya. The Swahili word "Soma" means "to learn" and captures the main mission of our Canadian registered, charitable, all-volunteer organization. Most of our activities are based out of a rural Maasai community, Elangata Wuas, in Southern Kenya and in the Nairobi slums, where we work with local organizations servicing youth.

Africa's Children – Africa's Future (AC-AF) envisions a future in which all children have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. To achieve this goal AC-AF currently works within African communities to help build a better, sustainable future for the most vulnerable children in our Orphan and Vulnerable Children Support Programme (OVCS). AC-AF also works with high-school aged youth around the world in our u+me=we programme, which aims to educate and empower students about the AIDS epidemic and related issues, while encouraging a creative cross-cultural dialogue. In the future, we hope to expand our outreach through the OVCS programme. This sustainable model, with initial training by AC-AF, can be adapted to and managed by any dedicated community, in order to provide positive change and opportunity for the world’s most vulnerable children on a wider scale. u+me=we has expanded 10 fold since our programme implementation started in 2007, and it is our intention to keep building the programme and network of youth ambassadors for change.

A-CET funds educational support programmes within Ethiopia through the local NGO - EYES which is managed by our trained and experienced ex-students. We are strictly apolitical and we do not see it as our remit to "lobby". We work within the policies and with the cooperation of the local elected government. We fund long-term scholarships for locally selected vulnerable youngsters who, without our support, would be unable to attend full-time education and we build/upgrade rural community elementary schools using local labour and materials. We believe these small scale targeted supervised projects are the most effective way of supporting development though education.
