More information
Against the backdrop of the dwindling tiger populations in the wilds, Tiger Canyons was established 25 km north west of the town of Philippolis on the Van der Kloof Lake in the Karoo of South Africa. Tiger Canyons is the brainchild of John Varty, a South African conservationist and filmmaker who specializes in Big Cats. John Varty's films have won several awards. At the moment, Tiger Man of Africa and Leopard Queen are showing on National Geographic. John Varty's films have won several awards. At the moment, Tiger Man of Africa and Leopard Queen are showing on National Geographic. Tiger Canyons is situated in the Province of the Free State in South Africa in the district of Philippolis. It lies adjacent to South Africa's second largest lake, the Van der Kloof Dam. The rugged Paaiskloof gorge runs through the sanctuary. The habitat is extremely diverse with aquatic and riverine bush along the lake, rugged mountains flattening out to open savannah grasslands with thickets. The species diversity is wide with many suitable medium to large size prey available.
