Ohel Sarah was established 35 years ago by Rabbi Shmuel Gershon and Mrs. Rivka Ginsburg, A"H.
Ohel Sarah is a registered non-profit organization that deals with rehabilitation, supported employment, education and welfare, for a wide variety of the special needs populations, from the age of 6 to 60+. The organization employs approximately 300 workers at 13 Ohel Sarah centers, which deal with education, rehabilitation, employment and welfare. The centers are divided into schools, supported housing, and supported employment and recreation facilities. Ohel Sarah operates 4 schools, for students aged 6- 21, who suffer from mild to moderate to complex to severe disabilities, either emotional, behavioral or mental. The students learn under the auspices of the Department of Education. Each student has a personalized program designed specifically for him, which is carried out with the aid of a professional staff, including teachers and paramedical therapists. At the conclusion of the school day, Ohel Sarah offers enrichment programs, hydrotherapy in their pool, horseback riding, music classes, art groups and a wide range of other activities. All year round, without fail, Ohel Sarah is involved with the management, operation and care for this massive daytime enterprise, for 300 children and adults, who receive education and recreation in the various centers. We feel connected to each and every student and relate to each person's special abilities, through maximum integration into the community. Ohel Sarah maintains supported housing, consisting of 9 group homes and a hostel of 4 apartments, where the residents live as a family and receive attention for all their physical, social, emotional and medical needs. The organization provides a staff of counselors who are available at all times. Residents are approved based on an acceptance committee, the recommendation of a board of diagnostics, a placement committee and the office of social welfare.
