To support and publicise the universal principles of human rights as they apply to the rights of musicians and their music as expressed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations.

FREEMUSE - THE WORLD FORUM ON MUSIC AND CENSORSHIP is an independent international organisation which advocates freedom of expression for musicians and composers worldwide. FREEMUSE is a membership organisation with its secretariat based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Freemuse receives funding from The Swedish International development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), The Sigrid Rausing Trust, Roskilde Festival Charity Society, Björn Afzelius International Culture Foundation (BAIK) and Sweden's Special Initiative for Democratisation and Freedom of Expression. FREEMUSE was born of the 1st World Conference on Music and Censorship held in Copenhagen in November 1998.
