To improve the relationship between young people, their families, the community and the police, prevent crime and anti-social behaviour, reduce the incidence of young people becoming an offender or victim of crime, support young people to develop positive social skills, personal competence, trust, motivation and leadership.

Blue Light has been active in New Zealand for over 25 years. It originally began in Australia as a community policing initiative. Blue Light is staffed by police officers and dedicated civilian volunteers. Although supported by Police, Blue Light is financially independent and does not receive funding from the Police. Blue Light aims to be a youth programme that provides positive on-going alternatives in situations where young people are at risk or becoming offenders or victims of crime.
