Stavros Center for Independent Living was created in 1974 when a small group of people with disabilities acted upon the belief that by forming an organization to be administered by themselves, dedicated to helping other people with disabilities and the Deaf secure their independence. More than 5,000 people turn to Stavros every year, people with different disabilities, different backgrounds, different languages, who all have one thing in common: a desire to live as independently as possible. We provide information and referral services, peer counseling, individual and systemic advocacy to protect and increase the rights of people with disabilities to live independently in the community.
