Camphill Communities Ontario came into being in 1986 as a home/school setting for children and adolescents. As the residents aged it became an adult-centred community. While social services were readily available for children in Ontario during this time, adults with intellectual disabilities were poorly served. Our work is to care for each other, our homes, our gardens and our land. We share this work with each other, each one according to his or her wishes and capabilities. In our houses, co-worker families and assistants live together with up to four adults with disabilities. Each family circle is unique depending on its members. Out of the strong support of this family, individuals can work in the community, make friends, and find ways to contribute their talents to the wider community. We also encourage individual and group study, therapies, outings, recreation and hobbies.
