The Siyakhulisa Trust was established in February 2008 in an attempt to raise funds to address the problems faced by the children of Somerset East. Our target group is made up of children (under 18 years of age) who are living with a chronically-ill parent (can be AIDS or another life threatening condition), have already lost one or both parents, have been abandoned or abused by family members, or that are homeless / living on the street. We believe orphan children are the most vulnerable of all children because they have been denied their most fundamental right, that is, the right to have parents. We do not exclusively focus on AIDS orphans, as this carries the risk of stigma and discrimination.
