FoodBank South Africa (FBSA) is South Africa's leading national foodbanking network, established in 2009, is a member of the Global Foodbanking Network. FBSA has food banks in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Port Elizabeth, and is in the process of rolling out more food banks countrywide. Though relatively new to South Africa, food banking is practised in more than 40 countries worldwide. The tried-and-tested governance model used by FBSA is based on broad representation. At national level, we work with government, food producers, manufacturers and retailers, and at grassroots level we collaborate closely with community leaders, faith-based organisations and non-profit organisations working directly with those who are food insecure.
