The agency was founded in 1980 as a direct response to the unique needs of families who find themselves "serving time on the outside" while a loved one is in prison. Bridge House was the first organization in Canada to have a mandate that directly addressed these challenges. The fundamental objective of all of Bridge House’s services is to provide support for women and children with an incarcerated loved one so that they will become empowered to achieve their own personal goals. We also provide emergency shelter for young women who are in situations of crisis. All services are inspired by a philosophy that recognizes the inherent worth of all people, respects the inherent human dignity of all people, and contributes to a just and caring community.
