We are not a government department, we are an independent community organisation run by women for women and children. Our services are confidential and free (although rent is usually charged in the safe house, safety is our main concern. Women's Refuges provide support services in the safe house or in the community. All our advocates are trained in family violence issues, and work to provide culturally-appropriate services. Many have experienced violence themselves, so they know something about what women who are abused go through.
