The Alternative Learning Organization (ALO) was created in 1999 to provide information on various alternatives to traditional education and schools. It is officially a non-profit educational foundation. Since founded in The Netherlands (Holland), ALO is also known by its Dutch name "Stichting alternatieve leervormen"(SAL). "ALO group" represents five associated websites which evolved from one original website created in 1995, called 'Alternative Learning Exchange'.
