Traditional education systems too often neglect the mental well-being of children, and yet scientific research has proven that stressed and depressed brains cannot learn as effectively as calm and happy brains. The Hawn Foundation is committed to erasing this legacy of neglect and unlocking the true potential of children everywhere - to learn with eagerness, confidence and joy. We fulfill our mission through public advocacy and with MindUP, our evidence-based social and emotional learning program currently available for elementary and middle school aged children. We provide teachers and schools with the materials and in-depth training they need to create supportive learning environments and give children the social and emotional tools to succeed. Research studies have shown that children who participate in MindUP not only learn more effectively, they also display more eagerness, confidence, empathy and joy.
