As the aid agency of the Swiss Protestant churches, HEKS is committed to positive action; we are committed to justice, peace and integrity of creation for all people to have a right to live safe, dignified lives free from all forms of oppression.

HEKS gives humanitarian and emergency aid and fights the causes of hunger, injustice and social deprivation. All people should be able to live a life of dignity and of safety in social, economic and political terms. The aid organisation has five regional offices in Switzerland running 40 projects in total and is engaged in 290 projects in over 45 other countries. HEKS has its own coordination offices in 22 key countries. HEKS works exclusively with partner organisations at the local level and does not post any Swiss employees abroad. As a matter of principle, local workers are recruited to staff the coordination offices. HEKS campaigns for a more humane and a more equitable world. The focus of its commitment is on the dignity of each individual. This is the underlying principle of universal human rights and is also reflected in basic Christian values, such as altruism and charity. Both aspects form the basis for the work of HEKS. This principle dictates the deep respect which HEKS has for people of all cultures and religions. As such, HEKS helps needy people regardless of their religious affiliation and ethnic origin. The aid organisation aligns itself in its work with goals like justice, peace and the integrity of creation.
