The Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI) is an independent, non-governmental, non-partisan and not-for-profit human rights organization established in December 1991. It seeks to remove impediments to democratic development and meaningful enjoyment of the fundamental freedoms enshrined in the 1995 Uganda Constitution and other internationally recognized human rights instruments. FHRI has successfully implemented a number of strategic plans since its inception. Each of these strategic plans has undertaken research, monitoring, documentation and advocacy on a variety of human rights issues; published human rights literature; has conducted workshops and seminars on basic law, human rights and related subjects; have advocated for penal reform, legislative reform and judicial independence; and have undertaken campaigns for better administration of justice and respect for the rights of vulnerable groups of people such as the internally displaced people, children, minority, disabled and women through prison visits, training, dialogue and policy analysis.
