To help indigenous communities succeed in their efforts to prevent the destruction or degradation of their lands and natural resources, and defend their right to self-determination.

More information

For nearly 40 years Cultural Survival has partnered with Indigenous Peoples around the world to help them defend their lands, languages, and cultures. We publicize their issues through our award-winning publications, we mount letter-writing campaigns and other advocacy efforts to stop abuses of their rights, and we work on the ground in Indigenous communities, always at their invitation. Our board of directors includes some of the world's preeminent Indigenous leaders, and our staff, headed by a renowned human rights lawyer, includes both Indigenous and non-Indigenous members. Under the guidance of our Indigenous-led Program Council, Cultural Survival partners with Indigenous communities to defend their rights and sustain their cultures. We help them get the knowledge, advocacy tools, and strategic partnerships they need to protect their rights. Every Cultural Survival program is designed to become self-sustaining and run entirely by the indigenous community.
