More information
The Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation is dedicated to enhancing international peace and security in the 21st century. The Center was originally formed as the research branch of Council for a Livable World, an organization founded in 1962. Since then, the Center has retained its focus on nuclear weapons but expanded its activities to include other present and emerging security threats. The Center has been at the forefront of U.S. arms control and national security policy for almost 50 years by establishing a U.S. nuclear testing moratorium, limiting the deployment of the MX missile and B-2 bomber, blocking deployment of National Missile Defense and eliminating funding for the nuclear "Bunker Buster" and "Reliable Replacement Warhead". The Center works to strengthen an international nuclear non-proliferation regime based on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), secure and reduce all vulnerable nuclear weapons-usable material throughout the world, and halt the spread of weapons of mass destruction to state and non-state actors.
