More information
The Little Bamboo Foundation Pre-School draws its students from amongst the poorest of Cebu's population. The residents of Pier 6 live in nothing more than a shanty town. Over the previous 18 months, Anne de Vesian, a young French woman, had developed a pre-school for these poorest of poor children. Starting with a simple learn-to in the shanty town, it has moved into a small but immaculate new building in the grounds of a nearby parish church. The children's physical appearance has metamorphosed from rags into real school uniforms kept spotless by diligent mums who live in appaling conditions. Our children are to become the bamboos of the Philippines, strong, flexible and valuable to the community. The name “Little Bamboo” also refers to the first school, held in a bamboo shack in Pier 6. Little Bamboo Foundation, Inc. and les Enfants du Mekong (Children of the Mekong River) offer a sponsorship program to help as many underprivileged children as possible go to school.
