IFPD's mission is aimed at developing and supporting projects that improve the health and quality of life for women and children in developing countries, and that offer them equal opportunities to participate in the social and economic life of their communities, in compliance with their basic human rights.

IFPD is a Swiss Foundation (with legal status according to articles 80 and following of the Swiss Civil Code), which was established in Lausanne in 1999. IFPD's commitments are in line with the programme of action adopted at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo (1994) - as well as with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) endorsed by 189 member states at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000. IFPD is not affiliated to any governmental, religious, political or ideological body or institution. It is a not-for-profit organisation and depends on donations to finance its projects.
