Reconnecting people with the place they live, and with the communities that share the place.

More information

Established in 1989 as a national charity, the Sensory Trust grew out of multi-disciplinary consultation whereby a wide network of disability and environmental organisations came together to identify a national role for the Sensory Trust. The Sensory Trust advises on issues, influences policy, assists professional practice, showcases good practice, organises user-testing by disabled people, provides training and education and develops design and management projects. We work with organisations in the UK and internationally to try out new ideas, share knowledge, create on-the-ground examples of best practice and evaluate the success of different techniques. The Sensory Trust considers that building social capital contributes to enhanced self reliance, collective action and collective decision-making within a community. It can therefore strengthen the capacity of a community to identify areas of interest around local opportunities and to respond to ongoing and existing development processes. Together these elements help to build sustainable and resilient rural communities.
