PHG Foundation grew out of the Public Health Genetics Unit, which was established with public funding in 1997 and pioneered the concepts of 'public health genomics' in the UK. Today we have an international reputation as leaders in the field, with connections in the health, research and policy communities in the UK, Europe, North America, the Far East and Australasia. In May 2007 we launched the Foundation as an independent not-for-profit research and development organisation, dedicated to making biomedical science work for health in populations around the world. We identify and promote the most beneficial opportunities for biomedical innovation to improve health and tackle disease. Our Foundation develops and promotes models and capacities for the effective mainstreaming of biomedical innovation into improved clinical and public health policies and practices.
