More information
Founded in 1990 by world-renowned gerontologist and Pulitzer Prize winner Robert N. Butler, M.D., we are the first nonprofit, nonpartisan, international research, policy, and education organization formed to educate individuals on how to live longer and better, and advise society on how to maximize the benefits of today's age boom. Our work is international, interdisciplinary, and intergenerational — while always focusing on how aging ultimately affects all individuals — every one of us. We review current knowledge of aging and make recommendations for lifestyle changes, identifying promising research areas for medical advances that could help alleviate the adverse effects associated with aging. We believe that staying engaged is a cornerstone of quality of life. We outline research agendas for the development of new therapies to prevent mental decline and maintain cognitive vitality throughout life. Through comprehensive research, we identify and analyze various forms of ageist stereotyping, pushing the issue into public discourse and encouraging public and private institutions to remedy ageist attitudes, policies, and practices.
