More information
The Stephen Carey Fund was set up in memory of 21 year old Stephen who died after collapsing during a football match in July 2012. Stephen, from Alnmouth in Northumberland, was representing the village side in a game in July 2012 when the tragic incident happened. Desperate attempts were made to resuscitate him at the match before paramedics arrived, but neither they nor the doctors at Wansbeck Hospital could save him. Stephen had been born with a heart problem, but no one ever suspected it, and he might never have suffered any symptoms. This campaign has been supported by the NNL, Northumberland FA and Stephen's family.
With over 100,000 lives being lost each year due to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and the current lack of equipment and skills in the public domain it is organisations like The Stephen Carey Fund who are raising both the awareness of the issues and putting in place solutions to the problems.
The Stephen Carey Fund works with businesses, local and national government funded organisations and local communities to install Public Access Defibrillators (PADs) across Northumberland and also to ensure that we increase the number of people with life saving skills so that they have both the knowledge and confidence to use those skills and the equipment provided.
