Madurai Health and Leprosy Relief Centre (MAHELERECEN) located in Madurai city, Tamil Nadu, India. It is a Non-Governmental , Non profitable and Charitable Organization renders community based promotive and preventive services of Health education IEC ( Information Education Communication ), case detection, Case holding POD ( Prevention of Deformity ), treatment and Rehabilitation services for curing leprosy persons in and around the Madurai district. These services are being given from the year 1991 onwards with the help of local persons philanthropic persons donations. 450 Leprosy patients under our care. From 1991, we organized health education and leprosy awareness classes conducted in every school going children with our flip chart and slide shows. For this education we got permission from the chief education officer, District education office. During this period we detected new(fresh) leprosy cases among the school children.
